Question:
Second Surgery In One Month....

Hi-I had Lap-RNY Feb 28th, and was doing so wonderful...Driving 4 days post-op, feeling great. Now-I just got back from a six day hospital stay and an additional surgery. My intestine was "kinked and twisted" and fused togther, I guess I healed wrong. I was in severe pain last Sunday and went to the ER. It was a horrible experience and I am so frightened it'll happen again. Has this happened to anyone else? Please be nice to me, I can't take any negative comments. I'm so weak and tired. I've been thru so much.    — Kayla (posted on March 29, 2006)

So sorry to hear that this happened - hang in there! Things do get better. Sorry, I haven't any words of wisdom in regards to this, but wish to encourage you that better days are coming! Rest up, follow the doctors orders and get ready to go clothes shopping soon! T

I have friends who had a adhesion, all had it just once. But your back on the right track! Be sure to get in your liquids and keep moving.

Hello, Sorry but I don't have any answers but will do some research after I send you this message. I'm truely sorry to hear about your misfortune with this procedures but lap-RNY is radical...as you know. I guess your body is trying to heal its self...I'll keep you in my prayers and start research...however I know your buds at this web site will beat me to it An YOU will have tons of replies if you have not already. Take care Frederica

My brother had adhesions after his surgery to remove his colon. It is very common after any abdominal surgery.

During my RNY my surgeon found and cut adhesions left from my appendix removal in 1975. They had never caused me trouble, so although you may get more that doesnt mean they will necessarily cause you trouble. Try to enjoy the BIG loss wthout fretting too much!

Kayla, I'm so sorry that you had to go through this. You are so smart that you listened to your body and got yourself to the hospital! I have read that it is some of the most intense pain one will ever experience! While uncommon, this complication can happen with ANY abdominal surgery -- it is no more or less common with weight loss surgery. Rest, ask others for help and then LET people help you! Allowing others to help me is hard for me sometimes. :) As for it happening again... you don't need that added stress so let that fear go -- if it does happen again, you will know it even sooner and won't have to suffer through wondering what to do. Peace.
