I was told that we should all buy medical alert wrist bracelets which say,
"No NG without Endoscopy". Apparently a nasogastric tube can be
safely inserted under endoscopic guidance.

You will get an opportunity to talk to the anesthesiologist before srugery.
At that time, explain to him your situation.

Yes, it is important that you tell all medical personnel that they should
not put in a blind NG tube. I would touch base with your GYN doc and
mention your concern. S/he can get you in touch with the anesthsiologist
before your surgery.

You could call your surgeon and get him to call the other doctor. I never
heard that one about the NG tube. Thanks for the info!

next time your by a er room, or around a paramedic, ask him to show you a
NG tube, all it is is a soft tube, very soft tube, that wont poke a hole in
a wet toilet tissue. but will suction mucus out of your larnx if your
suffocating. or it will allow excessive air to escape if your abdoment
inflates while recieving cpr, which by the way is a bit of a priority over
your wls surgery at the time of need.

Carmen, I had surgery 6/4/04 and had a endoscopy in 7/04, hysterectomy in
10/04 and another endoscopy in summer of 2005. Just tell your dr. and the
person who puts you to sleep ahead of time. They know how to handle
gastric bypass patients. You will be just fine....Judy
