Question:
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I RUPTURE MY POUCH? THE LAST 2 DAYS I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO EAT MORE
I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO HOLD APPROXIMATELY 4 TO 6 OZS. THE LAST 2 DAYS I SEEM TO BE ABLE TO HOLD MORE. IS THAT NORMAL? WHERE IS IT GOING IF THE POUCH IS 4-6 OZS SMALL? — GLENDA B. (posted on August 27, 2002)

Are you drinking with your meals? Or drinking within a half hour before a
meal? That could possibly be a reason, it empties your pouch when drinking
with meals. As far as I know you should have symptoms for a ruptured
pouch, possibly fever, diarrhea, vomiting. Hope this helps.

I read your profile and noticed you had surgery on 7/22/02. You are
probably still eating soft food or liquids. By "rupture" do you
mean a staple line disruption? A leak? Were you transected? We can eat a
lot of liquidy food because it passes right through. I had a staple line
disruption and there are no symptoms really. Just able to eat a lot more.
A lot lot more! I could eat two lean cuisines when I was disrupted. I was
not transected at the time but have been since. I can now eat about 4 oz.
With transection, a leak can cause temp and is very serious. Without
transection, the food just flows into the old still attached stomach. No
danger, just weight gain. Good luck!
