Question:
Has anyone been approved for Bariatric surgery with DEPRESSION as a CO-MORBIDITY?

Yes I was and it was not an issue at all.
I was, as my doctor said "the full package". Had all of the
co-morbidities. Now, I am off of most meds, still on the antidepressants
and some arthritis meds. Everything else is gone.

Yes, but it wasn't the only co-morbidity. I continue to take
antidepressants. The RNY didn't cure the depression.

I was approved for surgery with depression. Surgery doesn't cure
depression but it helps you feel better about yourself. Will probably
always need meds but not a problem.

Depression comes with being obese, however, it isn't a co-morbidity. A
co-morbidity is a life threatening issue like, Sleep Apnea(you can stop
breathing),Gerd,(can cause cancer in the esophagus), Diabetes, high blood
pressure, high cholesterol. These are considered life threatening. A person
can be approved for surgery but not only because of depression. I hope this
helps.

first i would like to agree with the others who stated that depression is
not a co-morbidity. yes, i have depression also, and i was approved--the
second time.
The first time i was denied because i hadn't been taking my meds regularly
and the depression and my anxiety was not under control. Now that i had
gotten back to staying on my meds, and there was some improvement, i was
approved this time.
