Question:
2 weeks post-op protein and liquids.

I'm having a hard time getting in my protein using shakes and bullets and also trying to get in my 64 oz of liquid. It's like I can't take one more swallow. I'm maxed out. anyone else have this problem?    — maree250 (posted on April 20, 2010)

You will eventually get in all your shakes, it is imperative. Just sip it and be diligent. It is a very hard step but you will do it, for yourself and your well being. It is surprising all the things that you will do after this surgery. Make sure you find a protein shake you like, I cried with some that I had to take at first. Unjury is great, I also use MaxProtein, I get that at GNC, it is hard to find.

As difficult as this is for all of us, it makes me mad that more docs and nuts. don't explain is more clearly. Yes, you are supposed to get in 64oz of LIQUID daily. ALL liquid counts...shakes, soups, water, tea...anything liquid counts toward your 64oz. I hope this makes life a little easier for you and good luck on your journey!

I use Whey Protein, the vanilla..I put 2 scoops per smoothie and it makes 2 shakes and you get 60 grms of protein. Also you get about 24 oz of liquid. I buy the fruit smoothies from yoplait, in the frozen section where frozen fruit is. Add skim milk, and strawberry flavoring, and one to two sweet n lows, blend or make in a smoothie maker...it is delicious...

You won't be able to get 64oz. in for a while but try a little at a time. It will eventually come. Don't be discouraged. Your body will tell you when you are thirsty as well. Just try to have something by you at all times to sip on. I know they say not to use straws, but that was the only way I could drink large quantities at once. Do what you need to do to get your nourishment. Remember all liquids count.

Go to GNC and by the high maintenance protein shake it has 60 grams of protein in 1 serving which is 3 scoops, pricey at $60/cont. I have vanilla and chocolate is also good mix 1 scoop with 4 oz of water three times a day. I like this because you get protein and water in at same time without extra cals from milk. But I still have to get in 2 dairies a day as well. I am 3 months out and my hair was starting to come out in handfulls so do not neglect the protein. Good Luck. Oh and if you go to GNC sign up with the gold card so you get discounts every month.
