Are you wanting to lose weight? I have never eaten Pizza and only just
starting eating 1/2 piece of wheat toast once a week. You should avoid
carbs and concentrate on protein and water. Believe me, you do not want to
eat the carbs. This is what got us into this situation to begin with.

Ditto. If you want to loose the weight and keep it off, be happy sharing
the piece of pizza and watch happily as those numbers on the scale go down
and down and down :-)

It's been a long time since I was a newbie post-op (5/2000) so I don't
remember exactly how long it was but I do remember being told that the
first 18 months were my "window of opportunity" of maximum
weightloss. Bread was NOT a part of my diet to achieve maximum weightloss.
My focus was (and is) protein, protein, and more protein. Now, if I
craved pizza I would eat the topping only of one slice. That means a
little cheese and a little meat, some mushrooms and some tomato sauce. I
would pull it off and throw the bread part away. It's amazing how little
you get in the way of toppings once you get rid of that bread that bulks it
up. Is it worth it to have that "bulk" put in your pouch?
But really, depending on where you are at in this process, please work on
staying aware of what you eat BEFORE you eat it advantage of that maximum
weightloss opportunity. That means make every calorie count. Your body
needs protein. I've never seen a post-op that "needs" bread, or
pizza for that matter. Don't waste calories and pouch space on food that
isn't optimal for your new body and new goals. Finally, just because you
reach the end of whatever window of opportunity your surgeon might use (if
they even tell patients that anymore), being at the end doesn't mean free
reign to start eating like before surgery.
Crap food in, pounds on. It's just that simple. Good luck!

There are so many delicous recipes that you can enjoy post op, but you
won't feel deprived. I tried her pizza marguerita, made with a whole wheat
tortilla, fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, topped with basil and an
assortment of diced veggies. You can add some skim milk ricotta as a base
to add more protein. Vary toppings. I'll have this on days when I'm
craving some comfort food. Not only are her recipes wonderful, she is
upbeat and hysterically funny. I would also invest in Susan Maria's Before
and After book. Many yummy recipes that your entire family will love. My
advice...keep things interesting. You need to enjoy what you eat, but
protein should be your priority. Good luck!

For me bread is out...I have tried a bite of soft pretzel, bite of pizza
and found out that bread will not work for me. The chest pain is not worth
it. I never was a bread eater anyway. I get my protein from meats they are
my favorite.Stay away from foods that got you where you were.Know your
downfalls and steer clear...
Good Luck

In a pinch I only eat the toppings. I dab off the cheese and toppings with
a napkin to soak up the extra grease and eat just that. It is not always
easy eating out and when you are with a group of people it makes it even
harder ,if 3/4 of the group wants pizza and beer you go with the flow and
make the best choices with the new tool(s) you have.

I agree with staying away from pizza and bread. I am 14 weeks post op
today and have yet to have either. When I crace that pizza taste, I take a
veggie burger or turkey burger and when it is just about done, I spread
some pizza sauce on it, some mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, basil and
oregano and finish baking or cover with a lid in a pan. It gives you the
pizza taste but it nothing but protein (just trace carbs in the sauce).
Yummmmmm!

I am 8 days post op but had only a small amount of carbs for 2 weeks before
surgery. And to be honest, I truly don't miss them. I keep thinking about
my goal of losing the weight and what I put myself through to get to this
point to be able to lose it. When I weigh all that out, carbs, pizza,
sweets, etc are just not worth it to me. I want to be healthy and enjoy my
life and not be a slave to food. That's how I have been getting through
and so far its been working for me. So, my advice would be to weigh the
pros and cons of what you are craving and then decide if you really want it
and if it will get you to where you want to be. After about 8 weeks my dr
says I can start trying regular foods. Hang in there.

I agree with all above. That "one slice of pizza" will turn into
another and another. I'm three years post op and still stay away from
breads. The craving will go away.

I'm trying "pizza" tonight. I bought the smallest ramekin they
had at World Market and layered the following:
Morning Star Farms Meatless Sausage Crumbles (soy)
Pizza Sauce
Reduced Fat Cheese
3 Slices Turkey Pepperoni
More Reduced Fat Cheese
Should taste like pizza and almost all protein. It's in the toaster oven
baking right now!
