I just had blood work done , told me i was animic and my white blood count was 3.1 should be 4.1 to 10.0 for normal, i do think this is diet related but not sure, i have to go back next week. does anyone have this problem also? — toni W. (posted on December 29, 2009)

I was slightly Anemic before I had WLS, so I already knew that I would have
to be proficient with my Iron Supplements even before I had surgery. Now, I
take double the recommended amount and my bloodwork has come back normal.
THis was on the suggestion of my surgeon, and I would strongly suggest that
you look to your surgeon for direction on low levels like this - they
shoudl know what the best thing is for you.

My Dr makes me take an iron supplement, with WLS I do believe you need to
take a supplement. I would ask your surgeon right a way.

After surgery I was anemic too. My NUT suggested taking VitronC --- a super
duper iron supplement. I take two a day --- still do. My iron levels (daily
and stored) are awesome. It helped with my energy levels, too. Before you
try -- ask your NUT or PCP or surgeon. But that is what worked for me. Can
fine Vitron C at RiteAid and my local pharmacy will order it (if I remember
to do it before I run out).

Hi, I am 6 years RYN post op! I had been anemic alot of those years. I
tried to do a Iron IV however was allergic to the Iron medication. I
thought I was just going to have to deal with it. Recently, a friend sent
me some liquid vitamins to try and i started them in October 09. After the
first month, I had my blood drawn and it was finally in the low normal
range. I feel better than I have in a long time. Go to
www.jones.vemma.com or email me [email protected], I would love to
give you more information. The vitamins are awesome and taste great!
Anemia is one of the highest problems associated with GBS.
