Yes, in most cases, surgeons will not perform surgery if you have a cold/flu.

I am 2 weeks post surgery and had a cold when I had surgery. I did not have a temp and was on day 5 of my cold so my surgeon went ahead. I can tell you tat recovery was a lot harder with a cold. The coughing and new stomach incisions was the worst. But, not having surgery would have been worse for me.
