Question:
Sick, very sick

Before I tell you what has been happening, I'm 9 weeks post. Surgery was on 5/29/09. All day, nothing I have eaten has stayed down. I'm staying on my diet. For example, I had made turkey breakfast links (2) and 1 scrambled egg. I ate 2 bites of the egg and 2 bites of the link, well ten or so minutes later, it all came up. A few hours later, I decided to try to eat again, I tried fat free/small curd cottage chesse. Same thing, all came up. I sipped 1/4 c of milk, all came up. I've been sticking with water, but even water is making me sick to my stomach. Am I just sick or can it be something worse, possibly surgery related? Please any answers would be helpful. Thanks.    — Nina15137 (posted on August 1, 2009)

So sorry to hear you are going through this. What kind of surgery did you have? I suggest you call your surgeon's office first thing Monday morning to let them know what is going on. You most definitely do not want to become dehydrated. Please take care...

It may be dairy related

Since you are throwing up fluids as well as solids, you may have a stricture, and the food/drinks are not able to pass thru the pouch. If this continues get to the hospital asap. Dehydration is the worse side here, as well as malnutrition. Get better soon!

Best advice for the situation you are in: GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM! Don't pass go, don't collect $200, just GO! There is obviously something not right. Waiting may only make thing worst. Good luck & keep your friends here posted.

Hello Christina, Definatly call your DR NOW!! I have had to have EGD 6 times as my strictures have returned. Last one was done a month ago and I'm 1yr out from RNY. Do NOT allow yourself to become dehydrated as was mentioned earlier. Your DR is the person you paid to give you the TOOL..he/she is the expert..that is what they are here for...do not be afaird to talk to them when you need them. Wish you a speedy recovery..

Hi...sorry I am so late to respond to this and I hope you are feeling better since...but my observation based on what you said and what I have experienced myself is that it might be WHAT you have eaten....I, for example will dump on too much fat...Eggs and sausage are too much fat for a new post op and that would certainly have made me ill as well...I also became lactose intolerant after surgery and didn't know it til later...so some days I was just miserable and had no idea why (til later when I could eat more and the dumping was almost immediate)...Even though you ate low fat cottage cheese, was that glass of milk low fat as well? So you need to watch your fat intake for each meal and try to limit the fat and sugars from dairy (lactose) and see if that doesn't help...I could not eat eggs for almost 2 years...At 5 years I cannot drink more than a few sips of milk, but I can eat about 1-2 ounces of cheeses...yogurt does not bother me...I hope this helps you...if not please do as others say and see your surgeon about this...
