Question:
I am having surgery tomorrow...
How long did it take you to go from recovery to feeling ok right after your surgery? Were you groggy for hours? Were you ok to see people the same day? My surgery is at 11am. — MyOrchids (posted on May 28, 2009)

I stayed zonked out most of that first day. I was also very lucky because
I had no pain from the gas. I hope you won't either. My sis and mom were
with me that first day. You need someone there, if at all possible, to
help out. It really turned out to be much less of an ordeal than I thought
it was going to be. I was in the hospital 2 days, and then 2-3 days after
being home, I was able to get out and drive short distances. (Not
recommended...but I felt fine.) Try not to worry. The tough part is over
with very quickly. And, hopefully, you will breeze through it like I did.
God bless!

best of luck. i woke up in a LOT of pain and nausea. my hospital stay was
pretty bad and disturbing and i felt like crap. the minute i arrived home
i dosed up on vicodin for 2 days. after that i was better. i did have
visitors in the hospital but i wasn't very nice to them because i was so
high from all the drugs they gave me.
BUT!!!!! about a week after surgery when i realized i'd already lost like
8 lbs and i was no longer in pain i felt a BILLION times better!! and i
feel better every day!!! and you will too! you will do fine!

I had VSG on March 25, 2009 and the first day I was mostly sleeping did see
my husband and daughter. The next day I was out of it a lot too but I'm
very sensitive to anestesia like that. I had surgery on Wednesday and by
the following Tuesday I felt good enough to clean my house and I vacumed
the floor. That was a big mistake too much too soon and I ended up in lots
of pain for the next few days. So I slowed down took it easy and reminded
myself that I just had major surgery. You should move around and do things
as you heal just don't try to over do it with things like vacuming and
moping or lifting those are particularly hard on your abdomen. I know now
didn't think about it before. I hope everything goes great for you
tommorrow and you heal quickly and easily.

Well, it all depends on what kind of surgery you are having. If it is the
gastric bypass you will be sore but you WILL be up and out of that bed by
the end of the day. I felt okay but I had a hard time getting up and down
from the bed because I had 2 hernias repaired at the same time as my
bypass. The pain was from those not the bypass. You will be up and around
before you know it. Remember, the more you move, the more you feel like
moving!!!!
