Question:
Swollen Eyelids
Here I go again w/another question. I had my surgery this past Monday, 2/16. I did fine, etc. I wasn't swollen or anything.....maybe a little puffy at first. This morning (4 days later) I woke up w/my eyes lids swollen. I called my surgeon, spoke to the nurse & she said that it shouldn't be from the surgery & suggested liquid benadryl. Has this happened to anyone who had Lap/RNY? — Ruth M. (posted on February 20, 2009)

My eyelids generally swell when my allergies act up. Do you have any other
symptoms? About a month ago I woke up with my eyes so swollen I could
barely see. Turned out that I had strep throat, though my throat wasn't
hurting, and my system trying to fight it caused the swelling.

Hi Ruth, Between the 'tickle in your throat' and now the puffy eyes, it
sounds to me like the possibility of some allergies and some post nasal
drip, although I do remember having a slight 'rattle' in my throat for a
short time after my laparoscopic gall-bladder surgery in 1993. I would
continue to blow into the spirometer they gave you in the hospital to be
safe. If it doesn't go away in a few days, I would call your doctor for
advice. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I don't know what area of the country you are from but with all the
moisture we are having in the north it's probably allergies. I never have
that problem but two weeks ago I was sneezing for about a week.
