Question:
How much weight did you lose in 1 month?
I was just wondering how much weight people lost in the first month.. I just wanted to know what I might expect. I know that everyone is different but I am just curious — trinity P. (posted on February 6, 2009)

I had my surgery (RNY) January 8, 2009. As of today, I have lost 35
pounds. I am not sure what the average weight loss in the first month is
supposed to be, but I am very happy so far. Judy in Indiana :)

I lost 40 lbs the first month with Open RNY 5 years ago. I also ate food
from day one rather than do any liquids or totally carb free diets...I ate
regular food pureed in stages of protein density. And No raw fruits or
veggies (except bananas and applesauce) or whole grains/fiber for the first
three months...

I have lost 115 pounds from my application weight of 227! I lost 29 pounds
before surgery and 20 pounds the first month. It would depend on how much
extra weight you have to begin with. Be patient, one size does NOT fit
all!

It really varies according to how much weight you have to lose and how much
water weight you have. The first month, a good part of your weight loss is
water weight. It also depends on which surgery you have, how much you
exercise, etc. I had the lap VGS - I lost 15 lbs in the two weeks prior to
surgery on the pre-surgery diet, and then lost 20 lbs in the first month
after surgery. Since then I am averaging 12-13 lbs a month - the majority
of which is fat. If you lose much more than that a month, most likely part
of it is muscle, which you don't want to lose. I'm not sure how many of
the surgeons measure your fat, muscle, bone, and water percentages each
month, but mine does to be sure you are NOT losing muscle. If you are
losing muscle, most likely you are not getting enough protein in.

30 days post op I lost about 35 to 40 lbs 90 days post op I have lost a
total of 65 lbs. It will slowly deccrease the amount you lose each month
for two years. So go with the right frame of mind. Scott Nor Cal

I had lap RNY on 11-17-2008, and I lost about 33 lbs the very first month
but on pre-diet I lost about 15 lbs. So far as of today, I am down to 305
lbs. I feel great and wish I had the surgery sooner than I did. Good luck
to you and best wishes.

I had lap RNY on 22nd dec 09 and lost 26lbs in the first month. I think
around 20 lbs weight loss in the first one month is the average and around
10-12 lbs every month after that...
All the best to u..
