Question:
Did anyone opt for Hormone Replacement Therapy after Hysterectomy?
I am 6 years post op Gastric bypass, getting ready to have a hysterectomy. I'm wondering if anyone that chose to have HRT, had issues with getting the dosage right, considering how we absorb medications? Any other additional thoughts on hysterectomy after Gastic Bypass are welcomed too. . . — financegal (posted on January 23, 2009)

I'm 14 months post op and had a hysterectomy Aug 07 and I don't take any
hormones. I told my Dr upfront that I didn't want to take anything. I admit
that I had hot flashes for the first few months but not anymore. Good luck
with yours. Debi

Regarding hormone replacement therapy, the best bet that I have found is
the SottoPelle method since it is a bio-equivalent pellet inserted under
the skin once every 3 to 6 months and used by the body as needed 24/7. No
need to worry about hormone pills or creams with the spike level right
after taking them that is designed to slowly taper off throughout the day.
And the SottoPelle is a natural plant derived hormone medication not a
synthetic one. Due to a high stress lifestyle and other health factors, my
hormone levels were way off and I had brain fog and was tired all the time.
With the SottoPelle, I felt 100 percent better and it was like getting a
new lease on life. Do some research on HRT methods so you can make the
best choice for yourself.

I had a complete hysterectomy 8 years ago and I was only 35. I tried hrt at
first because my doctor recommended it because I was young and he was
concerned about my heart and bones. Then I developed high blood pressure
and my doctor said I couldn't take it anymore. They reccomended I use a
natual plant based cream that was put together for my by a pharmacy that
specialized in that. It was a great help for reducing hot flashes improving
my mood and helping me to feel better overall and it didn't raise my blood
pressure. I am now at a stage where I don't need as much help and don't use
much of anything. I agree doing some research and finding out the options
and determine what symptoms you need to control to find the best solutions
is the best way to go about it. I hope God blesses you in your request.

Sara, I'm 4yrs post-op and had a hysterectomy last year. Because I've had
breast and thyroid cancer, I refused HRT. Several days later, I became so
irritated, rages and drastic mood swings that I was forced to begin HRT.
I'm looking at it from a short term perspective. My psychiatrist asked me
what was more important, my sanity or the possibility of cancer? My biggest
complaint now is weight gain, NO sex drive nor any interest in it. Just be
sure to do extensive research and get hormonal testing to see where your
current levels are. Good luck. Cheryle

I had my hysterectomy in Aug. and stayed on the prem-pro that I have been
on for the last 3 years. I have been just fine--no problems at all.
Recovery from the surgery was very easy. Good luck. Christine

I had a complete hysterectomy at 29 years old. This was 2 years before my
gastric bypass. I was on a pill form of estergen but my hot flashes were
raging about 6 months after having the WLS. After an increase in my dose
and still having hot flashes My obgyn gave me a patch he thought I might
not have been absorbing the pills correctly. I change the patch every 4
days and it has been great. Best of luck to you on the hysterectomy.

I am 2 1/2 yrs post op with RNY. I had a hysterectomy last October. I chose
to take HRT because of severe hot flashes. After a hysterectomy, my doctor
said we just need estrogen, so he put me on an estrogen patch called
Vivelle-Dot. I haven't had any problems with it. I was on a patch called
Combipatch before that for a couple of years. Your gynecologist will know
what is best for you. I really like using the patches. You just change them
every 3 days.
