Question:
I'm considering Nutri System and wondering what are others experiences with it.
I'm sure that this is somewhere on this board but I can't find it. :( I had WLS almost 2 years ago and didn't lose near what I need to lose. I'm considering Nutri System and wondering what are others experiences with it. I was on it years ago and lost 25 lbs. but I know that it has changed since then. — cpinck (posted on September 13, 2008)

I lost 30 pounds on Nutri System. Some of the food I loved. Some I hated.
If you like beans than you will like Nutri - System. They put beans in
everything, even their Lasagna. I hate beans. I had to get the dishes
that did not have beans. Don't let them send you the food of their choice.
Do the program where you get to choose your own foods. The problem I had
with Nutri - system is I gained all the weight back when I went off of it.
Best of Luck!

I concur with the above poster. I actually did well on NS, also. I
couldn't do it for life though & gained it back. However I have never
done it POST RNY so it could be a lot easier now.

I have seem people who did well on it but the food is pre-cooked and loaded
of sodium and potassium I would try therapy to address the over eating
issue and try to eat healthy, try a fruit and protein shake diet along with
couseling

NS is overly processed food. Maybe try going back to RNY WLS basics - a
simple diet. Throw away the bad stuff in the cupboards and fridge. Eat
mainly proteins - tuna, chicken, turkey, fish, low fat cheeses, vegetables,
occasional fruit. Avoid anything with sugar, flour, starch, carbohydrates.
Drink lots of water - Crystal Light drink, sugar free tea, coffee. Avoid
sodas, even diet. Take vitamins.

I personally know people who have lost 20-30lbs. on Nurti System. I
usually say, do whatever it takes to get the ball rolling. Good Luck.

Myself and 3 other friends tried NS and all wound up of the opinion that
you lose weight because the stuff isn't edible. My husband will ususally
eat anything that I buy to try and he tried one and threw it out. We all
gave our food to one person who took it to a food bank. Expensive trial!
Try a nutritionist. If you want to go the prepackaged route, try buying
just a little before you invest hundreds. Two of the ladies recently tried
Jenny Craig and I did them before surgery and all found their food quite
good.
I'd also ask to see their nutritional information on all the foods. I never
checked protein content, carbs, sugars or alcohol sugars--all could be
troublesome for you.
Another idea, and again--check labels first, South Beach Diet meals from
the grocery store. I've read that they're a much better choice than Lean
Cuisine, less carbs.

You still have ur tool-i suggest going back to basics. I'm one year post op
and have been riding steafy but still have 20 lbs to go. I know its because
I've added carbs back into my diet and if I'd go back to basics it'll drop.
But I'm really ok with where I am. As for the packaged food...I'd suggest
getting ww, lean cuisine or healthy choice. Wal-mart makes those affordable
and u can so do this. Good luck!!!I'm rooting for ya!!!

You have the best weight loss tool...and going on a "special
food" diet is not going to help you if are eating the same amount of
calories. Diets scare the heck out of me because pre op, they only worked
for a short time. Most of us can lose weight with no problem, but keeping
it off is what is sooooo hard. Eating the way you are supposed to eat with
RNY is the BEST diet you can do. Start logging how many calories you eat
by doing a food journal and once you learn what youre weekly average is,
from there you need to cut 500 calories a day to lose one pound a
week...Sometimes it's as easy as replacing a sugar or carb snack with a
prtein snack...or making a sugary drink a sf drink. Try a food journal and
do it the easy way, with your tool! Also, you might go get blood labs done
and make sure your thyroid is functioning and your nutrition is good...If
you are not taking vits, you need to start...They will give you energy
while you lose weight...I wish you much luck/success in whatever you decide
to do...

I tried NS before WLS. The reason I couldn't stick with it was because I
got migraines. I am sensitive to additives in foods, for instance I get
migraines from aspartame. So I worked at it and finally narrowed it down to
2 things that are in almost everything NS makes. I can't recall the names,
but one of them was actually banned from medications by the FDA. It is
allowed in foods in small amounts though. It is in almost all NS foods. It
makes you feel full faster and curbs appetite. Anyway, I felt awful. I
wished it worked because it would have been nice to be able to just pick
from their foods and not have to cook and read labels so much for a while.
I will say that a lot of the food did taste good.
