If you had a RNY Gastric Bypass no Sugar. Get Crystal Light only as the carories in it are not from sugar. Did you attend any classes before surgery and did they give you any guidence in any form of printed material. Broth should be OK, but keep it to a very light broth like liquid chicken broth. You need 100 Oz of water each day. Don't short yourself. At first it takes all day to get 100 oz down.

sugar free popsicicles, the crystal light as already mentioned, 100% fruit juice, and water are some I can think of right off hand.

The 25% less sugar Kool Aid will make you sick. You can buy unsweetened Kool Aid and sweeten it with Splenda and drink that (cheaper than Crystal Light). Don't sweeten it to the 'normal' sweetness at first though. Many post-WLS people, especially immediately after surgery, find sweet things TOO sweet...so put about half the sweetener in it and taste it and adjust it from there. I also did the Crystal Light, but I had to put one in twice as much water...if I put the recommended amount, it was too sweet and I couldn't drink it. If you have trouble with the broth - chicken, beef, lamb are all good - get some protein drinks and try them. You will need them eventually anyways to supplement your diet especially on those days you have a hard time getting protein down. Go to BariatricAdvantage.com, or VistaLady.com and get the sample packs (or unjury.com makes a chicken broth flavored protein drink) so you can try the different brands/flavors and find one you like w/o buying the entire canister to find out you can't drink it. As for the water...I was told by my dr to drink 2 liters a day (I had my surgery in Europe), which is about 66-67 ounces. Tea (if you dr said no caffeine, try decaffeinated or herbal - lemon or raspberry zinger are good because you can drink them w/o sweetening them - milk (if you didn't become lactose intolerant), watered down (at least 50-50%) juice, all count towards your water intake. I personally found it easier to fill up my 'jug' of water/drink and keep it with me, with a very small cup...and I'd fill the cup up and drink it...and just keep doing that for the day. I still do that with a slightly larger (juice sized) cup, because I hate drinking, and it's a lot less intimidating to have to drink just that little cup rather than look at the entire jug. If you keep at it (don't get distracted doing something else...if you're on the computer, stop every 5-10 minutes and drink a little cup), you'll have whatever amount of liquids down your dr advised you to drink. Please feel free to contact me if you need to 'talk.' It gets easier...you're just giving your body time to heal from the surgery right now.

Define "hard time". Doesn't taste good? Won't go down? Was the band put on too tight? Seems to be a common problem but not the only possibility.

No eating, hon ... The liquid diet HAS TO be enough the first week. You cannot have food. You could make yourself very sick - don't take the chance. You should just have a few more days to go until you can begin soft/pureed foods ... Hang in there - you will make it! :-)

You had lap band right? I haven't had mine yet, but I've been "trying" the full liquid stuff so I know what to buy--what I like. I find that the high protein slim fast in chocolate is good and filling. Another thing that they told me I could have was cream of wheat if it was really THINNED down. They also said high protein pudding, jello, broth, etc. I hope that helps! I'll be in that boat starting Wednesday, and my surgery is Aug. 4.

Shakes made with Nector's chocalate or vanilla powders. Hope this helps some. Lisa

I AM 6 DAYS POST-OP AND YOU MUST MUST TAKE IN YOUR FLUIDS! ABSOLUTELY NO KOOL-AID WITH SUGAR IF YOU HAD RNY. I HAD RNY LAST MONDAY. MY SURGEON TOLD ME TO EAT SCRAMBLED EGGS, TUNA, COTTAGE CHEESE, AND OF COURSE THE PROTEIN DRINKS. I WAS TOLD THAT WE NEED AT LEAST 48 OZ OF FLUID IN THE BEGINNING PER DAY. FOR MY FOOD AND FLUIDS, I AM USING AN OUNCE MEASURING CUP TO ENSURE I DONT DRINK OR EAT TOO FAST. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR WEIGHT LOSS
