I was drinking coffee at about three weeks post op. No trouble at all. I
limit myself to two cups, but most of the time I can barely get in a whole
cup before it gets cold!

I've been drinking coffee since about my 3rd month. My doc suggested I
choose decaf because of my tendency to be cold. Apparently caffiene
contributes to your body not being able to get blood to the extremities
(hands and feet) That's the only caution he gave me. I do limit it to two
cups a day most days

My Dr. asked me to stay away from coffee/caffinated drinks for a year. I
did... I drink it now and have no problems. You should ask your Dr.
however.....Good luck with your continued success and congrats on your 1
year out!

My doctor had me off of it for three months, but said to just watch it made
me hungry. I been on it three to four cups a week since 90 days following
surgery.

Before WLS I was a coffee drinker and after about a month out. I was back
to having my morning cup with the exception of the sweet stuff. Now on
Splenda and light cream. But life's oh so good---7 yrs post-op.

I'm almost 3 monhths out and have 1 to 2 cups per day w/no sweeetener and
I use fat free half n half. I started soon after surgery...doc said to
"limit" coffee no cut it out completely. It agrees with me fine
and I always follow it up with 16 oz. water. I'm losing weight fine so I'd
say, give it a try and see how it works for you. Moderation is the key
word.

I have to have my coffee and although I stayed away from it prior to
surgery and for about a month afterwards, I have one cup per day, with
splenda and I use sugar free powdered creamer...flavored of course. I'm
one of those ninnies that can't drink coffee straight! It has to be more
like a Caribou or Starbucks drink rather than a cup of JOE! SMILE...I
think it's fine, just don't overdue it. Hugs and best wishes! Cheryl

The only things I can think of are that coffee is acidic and as a
stimulant, it increases you appetite.
good luck

Jack...I drink coffee every morning for four years post op. I mix my
protein in it instead of sweetener! It keeps me going all morning...(HINT:
blend protein in a little milk, soy or water before adding to hot coffee)
Also BEWARE!!!! Coffee inhibits absorption of iron and calcium...Don't
take vitamins til 1-2 hours after coffee just to be safe!!

regular coffee is a stimulant which will make you hungry and probably eat
more. It can bug you. I am three years out and decaff only.

I was served decaf in the hospital after my wls. I was drinking the
regular stuff by about 2 weeks postop and have not had a single problem. I
had told my doc that if I couldn't have coffee after surgery then I
wouldn't have the surgery. I am a coffee achiever! She said I could have
it as soon as I wanted it, but it was about 2 weeks before I went back to
my regular coffee routine. Deb

Coffee is acidic and a stimulant, so it increases you appetite. but I
drink it allllllll night long. I work 14 hour shifts and would be lost
without it..
