Question:
I occasionally have blood in my navel.
I occasionally have blood in my navel. It doesn't hurt, I don't know when it is doing it, until the end of the day and I'm changing clothes (when I notice it one day, I do check thru the day for several days) . It doesn't hurt, just annoying. I know I should check with my Dr, but wanted some input from here first. I'm 2yrs 3 mos out, lap rny down 160. Thanks for any thoughts. — tynkris (posted on January 29, 2008)

I'm wondering if it's from friction from the skin sagging, but my gut
feeling is that you should immediately contact your physician so he can see
you - you can only find out by it being checked out.

Contact your surgeon. It sounds like something has saged with your weight
loss and he should be able to resolve the issue quickly. Did you have any
of your surgery cuts near the navel?

Good question. I have never heard of blood in the navel before. Now when
you say blood in your navel, I don't know if you are saying you have a
blood smuge like skin rubbing together can make, or if you have a few drops
of blood that have seeped into your navel from your insides. I assume the
2nd is what you are talking about because you would know if it were skin
rubbing together because you would have pain and rash as well. Under this
assumption I would run, not walk to my doctor and talk to them. I am not
sure at all that it has anything to do with wls, but if you are seeping
blood out of any area of your body, it needs immediate attention. That, to
me, would mean you are seeping blood which would mean internal bleeding,
even if it is a little. That is nothing to mess with. Please get seen
right away. Patricia P.

I'm 2 months post op and i've had that problem before. I noticed that a
year or so before my surgery. I went to have it checked out with my Dr.
and he took a sample of it and had it sent to the lab. He said it was an
infection from water getting in there while taking a shower. I've had that
problem twice in one year and the Dr. said it was still an infection. He
just gave me an antibiotic and it soon went away.
