Question:
Migraines and medicines
I currently take Topamax as a pre mediative medicine for my migraines but I still sometimes get them and when they come on I am I was prescribed a drug called RELPLAX I had been taking this medication prior to my surgery my surgeon said it was ok to take the Topamax but when I asked about the Relplax he said he was not familar with the drug I have not been back to my regular PCP doctor yet to discuss this with him yet, and I am not sure if it has any thing in it that is going to be harmful to me now. My question to you all is: Does anybody take this or has taken it? — iwilllose (posted on January 19, 2008)

I take Topamax and Imitrex. You would be surprised at the meds you can
take after. Just ask your doctor. If not ask about the Imitrex. Hope
that helps.

I am on the same combo... 50mg Topamax am and pm and then Relpax whenever I
get a migraine. I just had my surgery on 1/7/08, and have yet to get a
migraine -- haven't tried using the Relpax yet, but I have not been told it
will be harmful in any way. Looking at all the information I have, as far
as I can tell Relpax is not an NSAID, and I plan on using it as I had been
prior to surgery. I would be very interested in what you find from your
PCP.

Well my PCP just put me on Relplax because the Topomax causes blurred
vision and bothers my concentration (I just started this in Dec. 2007) and
doean't really do much for my headaches. They "think" they are
migraines; however, I don't think they truly know what is causing the
headaches. I've only taken the Relplax 3x -- I can only do 2 in a 24 hour
period and today they haven't done much good but make me sleepy and
irritiable. Tonight I'm going back to the Fiorcet w/codeine at least that
takes the pain away for a few hours.
I'm almost a year out and just started taking the surgery so I doubt if
there are any side effects because of the WLS but the side effects from the
meds would be something to pay attention to and follow up with your PCP if
anything out of the ordinary happens.

I know somewone who took topmax, and became so out of it they were sent
home from work with a escort, for fear of them driving. scary side effect,
although rare.

I would suggest calling your local pharmacy and talking to the pharmacist
on duty, or if you want an answer right away i would call 1-800 rite aid
(they are open 24 hours a day on the phone) good luck

I was on Topamax 200mg a day. When the pounds began to fall off the drug
became less effective and the side effects worsened. My neurologist
suggested Botox injections. This is totally not a cosmetic thing and
insurance covered it. The injections are given in your forehead, head,
neck, and shoulders. They are not that painfull as a really small gauge
needle is used. It all takes about a week to be effective and the only side
effect I have is a lack of wrinkles on my forehead lol. If this is a
potential treatment for you or anyone else reading this remember to consult
a reputable neurologist. This is not a job your PCP or dermatologist, as to
minimize the side effects the ammount used and areas injected need a
expert's hand. Best of luck, been there and done that.-Heather

I have suffered with migraines my entire life. I have been on everything,
including topamax. I went to the Ryan Migraine and headache clinic here in
Missouri. I am part of the population they can not figure out why I get
them. They gave me the most wonderful drug. Zomig nasal spray. They come
in meter doses you take one and 20 mins later the migraine is gone. It's a
god send! I haven't had a migraine stay after taking the Zomig. It's
amazing!!!!! Ask your doctor if you can give it a try.

I currently take the Relpax and find that it is the only triptan drug that
works for me. It does not seem to cause me any digestive side effects. I
hope this answers your question.
