Question:
I had rny lap on Oct 1 this year, only down 34 pounds is this normal?

I am on the soft phase of the diet but it seems i can eat anything ect, nuts pretzles. I am eating as much protein as I can, drink at least 64oz of water a day, and exercise. I just started exercising 6 days a week. I did not set start right a way due to some complications, open wound, and lung problems I had prior to surgery. Is this normal weight loss?? Any sugestions would be helpful!! Thank you In advance!! :]    — jennylynnsch (posted on December 5, 2007)

I think that sounds like pretty reasonable results for only 9 weeks. I would leave off the snack foods and eat more nutritious things, until you reach you desired goal. Might speed things up a bit!:) Good luck on your loss!

When I first started working out, I gained a few pounds, and was concerned so I asked one of the people that are Trainers at Balleys and they said you gain or stay the same the first 6 weeks or so, then you start loosing the weight. He was right, after 6 weeks I dropped 10 lbs. just like that. But then I made a big mistake and quit working out for 3 mo. I didn't gain, but have been the same until this week when I lost a few pounds because I started working out again about a month ago. Keep up the good work, it will come off.

I had lap band done Oct 25 and have lost around 25 lbs. I don't make it a habit to weigh myself so I haven't weighed in about a week. I exercise everyday and eat 3 meals a day. No snacking at all. My first adjustment is Dec 11. I can tell I need it bc I can eat a bigger amount than what I have been recently. Keep up the good work and remember everyone is different at the weight loss. No one is the same.

If you were very big, those people initially loose weight faster. Others loose weight slower. It doesn't sound bad for about 9 weeks post surgery though. Take it easy on the pretzels and nuts--my surgeon says to avoid the pretzels expecially. Almonds (in moderation ) are ok--only have a dozen or so as a snack.

i also had my surgery on oct.1st and i have lost 38lbs, so it sounds like we are on the same track. i have been back on regular foods since about 4 weeks, but you have to start out slow. there are certain foods i can't tolerate yet like bread, raw veggies, soda, and protein bars. i had been walking some since surgery, but no real exercise until this week. i just started a one mile workout video every day and once i get used to that i have a two mile video to do. i hope you are feeling as good as i am and lets keep up the good work. hope this helps...Holly

Sounds like you're right on target to me. I'd lost about that much weight in the same amount of time. Keep doing what you're doing and don't try to push it.

I guess my question is: If you're on the soft phase of your diet, why are you eating snacks such as nuts and pretzels? I would suggest sticking as close to the diet plan as possible for the first 3-4 months and refrain from snacks altogether. Focus on daily protein needs, milk, 64+ ozs of liquids, and exercise. If protein needs are a problem, consider using a soy protein supplement - it can be added to milk in a flavored form, or added to meals in an unflavored form. I had my lap RNY on 11/6/07 and have lost over 50 lbs thusfar. I have bi-lateral lower lymphedema, so exercising is difficult but not impossible. I no longer takes meds for diabetes, high blood pressure, or osteoarthritis. Both sleep apnea and COPD has improved. I feel very blessed to feel so good, despite a few bumps in the road I encountered following surgery. I wish your all the best and continued good luck on your new quality of life journey!

The goal of the post-op eating restriction is two fold.... 1) It is to make sure that your body has enough time to heal after surgery and 2) It is to help facilitate weight loss. I would encourage to stick to the food goals your surgeon has given you and not let yourself get side tracked by nuts/pretzels/other snack foods. Good for you on the exercise. :)

I had my surgery on October 9th, and have lost 30lbs, so it seems like we are in the same ball-park! I have been eating regular food since about 5 weeks, but I haven't been exercising enough. I do walk everyday, but I know I need to do more. Keep up the good work! - Shannon
