Question:
Vomiting/burping up FOAM soon after I eat -- normal? bad!?
I have found that, recently, after I eat I vomit white foam with some of the food. I didn't think I am having the "one bite too many" but it could obviously be a possibility because I can't avoid vomiting a little HOWEVER it always has A LOT of white foam with it. Has this happened to anyone? Do you know why?! Thank you! — VandyFan08 (posted on June 4, 2007)

It's called the "foamies." Thank God that never happened to me.
You can go to the search box above and type in foamies. It is pretty
normal, however I am not sure how long it lasts. It doesn't happen with
everyone though. Welcome to the losing side, hang in there it DOES get
better I promise!

I hear it happens to a lot of people. Eating too fast; too much; food is
too dense, etc. etc. etc. Some people have for a while, some for quite some
time, some it goes away. Every once in a while I will burp and it will feel
foamie in my throat - but never comes up to my mouth and to date - haven't
thrown up. Good luck. Many other people have experienced this I hope they
answer your post.

It's called the foamies, and it only happens to me when I do something
wrong, eat too fast, eat too much, or don't chew enough. It is something
that is normal, but you should not be doing it all the time. Call your
doctor and see what he says

I am 2 years out- just had it this morning. Working too much yesterday,
didn't drink enough, ate late and went to sleep. This morning terrible pain
and couldn't even keep water down. You will be one of us that really has to
take care of how you eat and drink and try to hold down your stress levels.
It is basically a part of the dumping syndrome. It happened to me alot in
the beginnning when I tried to eat food I just wasn't ready for yet.
Especially meat which still gives me a hard time. I have had to pretty much
just eat more of a vegetarian lifestyle and meat as my dessert if I eat it.
Last night was due to some delicious barb-q chicken my husband made. I ate
maybe an ounce. I do best with soy- but it gases me bad. Dairy is good but
I will do the opposite and bind me. Good luck- maybe you'll be a lucky one
and out grow it- but I am glad in away- because it keeps me honest and I
don't think I will ever put the weight back on.

This foam is the body's way of digesting the protein and is normal.
Sometimes drinking a little warm liquid helps to cut it. If it bothers you
a lot be sure to let your MD/dietician know so that it won't interfere with
your food intake. Good Luck!

Hopefully this is not the case for you, but when I started with the
"foamies" and subsequent vomiting, it turned out I was diagnosed
with a stricture.

the "foamies" happen to me if I eat too fast or don't chew
enough. I also get "foamies" from drinking lemonade (yes, even
sugar free crystal light lemonade) and sometimes from OJ.

THANK YOU so much for all of your responses!! I just passed 2 months
post-op and it began happening about 2 weeks ago (along with vomiting...I
hadn't vomited at all before). It has happened with meat, veggies, and
even water, but I will work on slowing things down a lot more and hopefully
it will put a stop to it! :) Thanks again for all of your help!

It's referred to as frothing and normal to experience this with lap band
surgery. Try some hot tea or any other warm liquid sipped slowly should
help. Best of luck.
