Question:
How do you know if you have a leakage?

You would be sick-may not have all the symptoms but you would have at least
one. If there is any possibility, call your Dr. NOW!! Tell them what is
going on and let them decide what to do from there. DO NOT self diagnose
this.

Usually the symptoms would mimic a perforated ulcer or ruptured appendix.
The leak would allow digestive juices into the abdominal cavity causing
inflammation and infection. So you would probably have pain, fever,
nausea, vomiting, etc. If you suspect, like the last poster said, call
your surgeon immediately as if let go, can be life threatening.

Here is an explanation of the symptoms of peritonitis which can result from
a leak... This is from www.WebMD.com, a good source of answers to questions
that you may have. This is a site that I use for symptomology.....
Peritonitis
Peritonitis is an infection of the lining of the abdominal wall
(peritoneum) caused by bacteria or irritating substances. Peritonitis
causes pain and swelling in the abdomen and can be very serious if not
treated.
Symptoms of peritonitis include:
Swelling of the abdomen, which may feel hard (rigid).
Severe pain and tenderness in the abdomen that becomes worse with moving,
coughing, or pressing on the abdomen. The pain sometimes reaches into the
shoulder.
Nausea and vomiting.
A rapid pulse.
Chills and fever.
Rapid breathing.
A person with these symptoms requires immediate medical attention.
Treatment typically involves surgery and antibiotics. Without treatment,
the illness gets worse rapidly and can become life-threatening.

Hi Yvette. You sound so much like many people who have just had surgery.
If you had a leak, you would be sicker than all get out and probably be
hiccuping out of your mind. I didn't realize that hiccupping was a sign of
leak, but I have learned that it is. Not a now and then one, but a real
problem with them. If you suspect that, call your surgeon, but you would
have had a leak right away, you should have been pretty sealed up before
you left the hospital.
Regarding your other question about sweets and cravings. It may be an
issue for you. You have to detox your body of sweets and eventually the
cravings decrease. Mostly though, Yvette, honestly it is the head game I
talk about time and again. It is your brain swearing that you can have
some, that is is ok and you will still lose a ton of weight now that you
have had surgery if you eat sweets, you will still lose. They are all lies
your brain tells you. Don't believe them, and do what you need to push
past it. It is a tough test right out of the gate, but you can handle it.
You have come too far to go back now.
Wls is not a piece of cake, and it is not a miracle by any means, it is a
tool Yvette. Use your tool and learn to control those head issues and you
have a lot of success ahead of you. Best to you.

AMOS MOD NOTE: If in doubt CALL YOUR SURGEON!!!! Stuff like suspected
leaks, chest pain, trouble breathing, stool in blood, or just feeling
horrible. Better safe than sorry, its your surgeons job to handle such
questions and concerns.
