I had that feeling myself, but I'm glad I went through with my surgery 6 months ago. As long as you follow what the docotr's say you should be OK.

I had more of a fear of dying of a heart attack, or diabetes. As my doctor said last week, he had to recheck the name on the top of the lab reports, because they were perfect. Second thoughts are common, but good grief, this was th best and easiest surgery I have even been through and had. Good luck, Diane

I think we all worry before surgery. I myself still wonder if I am getting enough protein. I know that I am getting all the vitamins and calcium that I need and my husband is giving me the Vitamin B-12 shots once a month but protein is another thing. I don't use the protein supplement anymore because I'm almost 5 months out of surgery with a Lap RNY. Only I don't drink milk and they say that 3 8 oz. glasses along with your 2 oz. of protein at a meal is enough. I feel fine, but I'm not sure how to tell if you don't get enough protein but you won't have to worry about that for awhile because you will be on the protein supplement for several weeks after surgery. I'm sure that you will be fine.

Hi Constance, you have a very valid fear. It is possible that these complications will set in for a very small portion of wls patients. You have to be serious about taking your vitamins and calcium, and follow the program. This is not a game, but serious stuff. The good news is that if you follow what you are supposed to do, you can have really good success. I am three years out and need my calcium, vitamins and protein every day. It is a challenge every day to fight my will and do what I am supposed to. The head is a tricky thing, and will fight you tooth and nail. Dying? I don't think there are many who die from malnutrition, but it sure can cause problems if you neglect your health, and those problems left untreated can cause more problems. Don't go there. Follow the program, do right and expect the best. It happens for many, and it can happy for you. Respect what you are about to do with your body, and ask all these questions to your surgeon. They are paid plenty to teach and service your body. Expect that from them. :) Take care, Patricia P

We all have that same fear. I'm 4 years out and still have it. I have always felt though that it is that fear though that also keeps me from testing how much more I can push this little sack of mine and it reminds me to be faithful to my vitamin buddys. fear isn't always a bad thing. I have lived with a fear that I might not make it to a ripe old age all my life. gastric bypass gave me some control to fight for my health and I'm not going anywhere without a fight. If you have faith in yourself and your choice the fear will get better. my prayers and thoughts are with you. If you would like an ear I like to talk with friend going through it too. Anna
