Question:
Has anyone done a colon cleanse?
I'm 3 yrs out and have IBS and want to do a cleanse, but I'm scared because I don't know how my body will react. — ali1361 (posted on May 10, 2006)

I would get a doctor's opinion on this, if it's something you want to do on
your own. I think it could make your IBS symptoms worse. It won't have
anything to do with your gastric bypass, unless this "cleanse" is
something you take by mouth. Your intestines are pretty much self
cleansing. Any "cleansing" from below will only clear out the
last part of the large intestine, which will have stool in it in a matter
of time, anyhow.

My question to you is why? I am not sure that I understand why a person
would want to do this. Could you enlighten me? Anyways, with that out of
the way. I have IBD (microscopic colitis and diverticulosis) and there
isn't any way that I would do something like a colon cleanse unless it was
for a colonoscopy or endoscope. Just my opinion, not trying to challenge
you or judge you. I really, really would get a doctor's opinion on this
first.

A colon cleanse will do nothing to help your IBS. I have IBS and my gastro
doctor told me the way to treat it is to eat lots of fiber and take
something like Immodium when I am having an episode. IBS is something you
might have to live with the rest of your life. Some doctors even think it
is psychologically related. Mine is purely stress induced and can hit me in
a matter of seconds. Good luck!

I will WARN you NOT to do a phosphorous (sp) drink from the pharmacy. It
was the worst stomache ache I have ever hbad in my likfe and I doubt we are
supposed to do those. I thought I was gonna BLOW UP!!! No kidding. That was
back at the end of Dec. i was going in for PS and thought I would
"cleanse"myself! NEVER AGAIN. JMHO
