I too, was only at a BMI of 39 but I had high cholesterol and sleep apnea
as well. I was approved on my first try and very scared, but excited at
the same time. The first two weeks after surgery are the toughest because
you are sore, but not really hurting. The first day after surgery was the
worst (pain wise) for me. I took 5 weeks off from work because I had the
time. I could probably go back after three if I really wanted to. You
didn't mention being married, do you have anyone that can help you that
first week you are home? The eight year old should be able to help quite a
bit. Good luck!

Hi Melissa, At the time of my surgery, I was 31 yrs old and I had two
girls ages 2 and 8. I was a single mom and worried about taking care of my
girls after surgery or even worse having a surgical complication and
leaving them without a mother. At 240 lbs, I wasn't a very active mother
anyway so I decided it was worth the risk to be more involved. At the time
that I made my appt, my BMI was 39. By the time my consultation arrived 4
mos later, my BMI was 42. I didn't intentionally try to gain weight, I
just gave up dieting. After surgery and upon returning home, my mother
stayed with me for 2 days and helped with the girls. After that, I was
fine on my own. I had Lap RNY and had no lifting restrictions when I got
home. That was very important for me since I had a child that was still
sleeping in a baby bed. I returned to work in 2 wks time but could have
returned sooner if I had to. I am forever thankful for the surgery and
wouldn't do anything differently. It was the best decision for me. Good
luck to you! Michelle :)
