Question:
Information about treatment of a Marginal Ulcer?
I had a scope done, and found a small marginal ulcer. I really never knew I had an ulcer, because I didn't have pain, just some bloating. That is why I had a scope. I am almost 4 years post-op. Anyway, I was told to take Nexium twice a day and come back for a scope in about 6 weeks. Should the Nexium heal the ulcer? If not, what will have to be done to fix it? I hope I will not have to be on Nexium for too long, it cost me $86.00 for 60 pills, wow! — [Deactivated Member] (posted on November 22, 2005)

Marsha, I'm sorry I have no answer for you, but every time I see your
subject line I read "magical ulcer". :D
I hope you find relief soon, and before you go broke on Nexium.

Hi, Most of the time the meds will heal your ulcer. I've been fighting
ulcers most of my life and constantly since my surgery in 2003, but I am
not the normal. So relax try and keep your stress level (and acid level)
down and take your meds. I hope you heal quick!! Sue

The Nexium should do the trick, unless you are weird like me. (and
aparently the other poster) Doesn't look good huh? Anyhow, Nexium is the
only thing that keeps the pain away for me. My first ulcer had to be
removed surgically, but none of my doctors gave me Nexium, just prevacid.
When the second ulcer developed my Doc put me on Nexium twice per day for 3
months. During that time I also made some dietary changes and the ulcer
was 'under control' within that time. After three months I cut back to one
Nexium per day and that is a life long maintence drug for me. My copay for
once a day Nexium is 75.00 for three months, but honestly...it cost me
300.00 per month when I was taking it twice per day.....and I was happy to
pay it. Try mail order thru your insurance, it's usually cheaper. As for
the rest of your question... Mine isn't gone, I'm just managing it. So,
short of miracle or surgery, I don't know what to tell you if it doesn't go
away.

My surgeon prescribes Nexium for life for all his patients. Nexium
controls stomach acid, which allows your ulcer to heal.

I consider myself the former queen of the MU. But we didn't have Nexium in
those days. I took 20mg Prilosec 4X per day and that did the trick. And
that's very cheap. You can get it OTC, but if you get it Rx, it is my
lowest copay for a gazillion pills. Some of us are more prone to this type
of ulcer than others. Some will never see this, some will get one only and
then the body accepts its new polumbing arrangement. My body has to argue
with EVERYTHING. UGH. But I have not had the problem for a few years now.

I have not been scoped, but my doc and I agreed that most likely, I had an
ulcer (diagnosed last Feb.) Prilosec really works for me and is not quite
that expensive. I started taking it once of twice a day and now I take it
as needed. Some times I will have to take it 2-3 days in a row, but it
also gives me pretty immediate relief when I start to have pain and burning
(within 30-60 minutes). Good luck to you!
