Question:
Is it normal to lose only 18 pounds 7 weeks post-op?
A friend who started out at approx the same weight as I did lost a pound a day, or near that for the first month. I feel like I have failed yet one more diet. — janewagner3 (posted on November 15, 2011)

Everyone loses weight at different rates so don't beat yourself up. You
need to focus on you, forget about what everyone else is doing and try not
to compare yourself to them. I am nearly 5 months post-op and I have lost
72ish lbs but I have hit plateaus, which your body has to do so it can
catch up/get used to the weight loss, and had weeks where I've only lost
2-3lbs. You have to make sure you're getting 64oz+ of fluids daily, 60-80
grams of protein a day, and challenging your body to go further than it
went the day/week before while still recognizing your limits. I hope that
helps. Just remember you're doing amazing and just because it was surgery
doesn't mean the pounds will melt off - it is definitely not a quick fix!

I've had days that I wasn't losing and wanted to give up! Listen to the
advice about exercise, water and protein. I chose to do that instead and
lost a size within a week! You are still averaging over 2 pounds a week!
That is great...100 pounds within a year!!

First, you have not failed. 17 lbs is 17 less then you weighed 2 months
ago. What you need to focus on is what you take in, yogurt, soups, boiled
veggies, beans (usually in soup form), protein suppliments. You need to
get enough protein so that you continue to loose fat, not muscle. FInally
you need to take in water, lots of it. BTW, did you have the lapband or
the GB?

I am about 4 months post op and I can say that my weight loss journey is
different than friends that have had it done. They were losing a pound a
day. I will lose 2-3 pounds a week and then hit a wall, but I continue to
lose inches. Mine seems to be inches first and then pounds off the scale.
Dont get discouraged!! And yes remember the water and protein if nothing
else. I can tell a difference if I dont get my water or protein in! Good
luck.
