Question:
Do you all think that Rogaine will work for my hair loss?

Yes I do but all I had to do was take my zinc and biotin and instead of
spending money on expensive rogaine, I just followed the motions. MOST of
the affect of rogaine come from the scalp massge. Massge your scalp in the
shower in the morning for at least 5 mins as you shampoo. Use your nail
tips to gently massage your entire head. Before I went to bed at night I
repeated the same process without shampoo. Your hair will come back-be
patient and have faith. GOOD LUCK!

To agree with Teresa, your hair will come back. Just give your body some
time.

Here I go putting in my two cents, like the following folks that replied to
your question, I will add to it, they are right saying to take zinc and
biotin, HOWEVER, the bigger thing is, are you taking in your protein? We
all must have our protein daily. My NUT tells me I must have 85 grams, I
do not know what your NUT advises you.
When I had my RNY operation I was frantic about hair loss, thank the good
Lord, I had minimal, why you ask, because I took in all my protein I am
supposed to get. Not only do you lose your hair, but if you do not get in
all your required protein, you will have muscle loss and do harm to your
ticker.
My NUT tells me all the time, I am so good about following her orders, I am
glad because I am pretty healthy for an old coot.
Good luck!

If you lost hair as a result of your surgery, your hair will come back over
time with the proper amount of Protein in your diet. Also, biotin does
help.

I think everyone is correct. Save your money - don't buy rogaine. Get your
protein. What happens is that your body distributes the protein it gets. It
sends the protein first to the areas that need it most - heart, liver,
lungs, etc. Your hair is not vital so it's last on the list to receive the
protein you ingest - hence, the hair loss.

Don't buy name brand but buy the generic. It costs $20 at Costco for a 3
month supply. And it works if you use if faithfully. I have always had thin
hair and used it before surgery. It does work. I asked my dermatologist
about taking biotin and he told me it has not been proven to work. Just
what he told me. He is the one that told me to use only the generic Rogaine
and he has many patients on it. It works for me. But you do have to use
twice daily and it takes about a month or two before you see a huge
difference. Cheers, Tee

It depends on what is the reason for your hair loss.
If your hair loss is solely due to WLS, probably it won't make that much
difference.
If you're like me and the hair loss is due to other factors than WLS &
weight loss, it may prevent further loss.
My dermatologist (yes, I was referred to a dermatologist for hair loss.. go
figger..lol) recommended Rogaine to prevent further loss. He said in my
case that it wouldn't help the hair come back.
My advice is to go to your PCP and have them draw blood work to check
thyroid, hormones, zinc, Iron (ferritin), vit. A & D & B levels
(and any other the doctor might think involved). If all blood work is
good, then ask for referral to dermatologist or endocrinologist.

BTW: my dermatologist has me on Rogaine 5% and while I'm not seeing
improvement, I'm maintaining what I have and that's good. I hate the way
the rogaine makes my hair feel tho.. ugh. And I've tried the generic and
the name brand.. the liquid and the foam. If you watch for coupons and
sales, you can sometimes get the name brand cheaper than generic.
Best of luck to you.

Hi Samantha! Dont worry about the hair.... I took Biotin from the minute i
had surgery... it minimizes the amount you lose... and when it grows back
its like baby hair.... you will be fine... i never lost enough to make a
difference, but my friend had the surgery same time as me and didnt take
the biotin and had to wear hats....
Good luck...

I would forgo the rogaine. I would go with the protein requirements,
cutting your hair shorter so you don't freak out when it does fall, take
biotin and zinc. I was pretty flipped out because my hair was long and it
was everywhere. The hair follicles go into a temporary shut down so the
hair grows back but its pretty scary when lumps of it comes out. This
doesn't happen to everyone but I had large masses come at a time. I took to
wearing hats for a bit or hoodies type shirts. Mine was pretty major but
not everyone runs into that.

I take Biotin, and get plenty of protein, but I also take thyroid meds, and
that can cause hair thinning, too. I tried a shampoo recommended by my
stylist (Nioxin), but it really didn't seem to be doing anything. Then, my
daughter bought me a trial set of Ovation Cell Therapy (VERY expensive)....
and I've never seen anything like it. I'm so pleased with my hair now that
it almost feels like I'm 20 again (I'm 57 and my hair was REALLY thinning).
I'm not sure how it works, whether the cell therapy coats each strand of
hair, but my hair feels thicker, softer, and much MUCH healthier. Just my
two cents. I haven't bought any more (because it really is expensive)...
but when I have a few extra dollars, I WILL buy more. It's working for me.
I am two years out from Gastric Bypass, and I've lost 140 pounds and with
a few minor fluctuations, kept it off so far.
