You're encouraged to walk the day of surgery (if it's done early). I was
out of the hospital in 6 days and on the treadmill day 7, albeit low level
and slow. You're Dr./office can fill you in further, but pretty much walk
more each day, and maybe some light arm exercises in a seated position.
Then, let pain be your guide. Good luck!!! I'm excited for you.

I was up walking the halls at the hospital 6 hours after surgery, still
hooked up to the iv and all that stuff hung on a pole and rolling it around
with me. And a physical dynamo I aint. But I was compelled to get up and
get moving.

You will be asked to walk immediately, however, you will not be allowed to
lift anything over 7 lbs for a while. I waited 8 weeks before joining the
gym. I also got the 'ok' from my surgeon before I joined. Good luck with
your surgery!

I was ordered up and moving about 12 hours after surgery. It wouldn't have
been that long except for a negative reaction to morphine that I had which
knocked me out for a couple of hours. I awoke swelled up with hives/welts
all over my face and neck. I 'felt' like a monster. They wouldn't let me
see myself (or anyone else see me, thus no walking the halls) so I must
have looked pretty darn awful. LOL. Seriously though, get up and walk as
soon as they let you. It helps to move any trapped gas and reduces the
chances of blood clots. You don't have to jog or race, just shuffle along
best you can. Movement is the key. I couldn't lay on any side or my back
for very long because of that darn gas pain. Felt like somebody was knifing
me in the center of my spine. Sitting up and moving around was best,
getting home to a shower was even better. Best of luck on your surgery!

Good luck with your surgery, Gary! Everyone has the right idea..you should
be up and walking within hours after your surgery. My doc didn't want me
to do anything but walk for the first month after surgery. Two months
before anything rigorous. Again, best of luck!

I was up the same day walking in the hospital halls around and around. I
did it like 3 times the first day then worked up to 4 to keep from getting
clots or anything and I did ok.

I walked as soon as I could, Dr. orders. I had to wait for 6 weeks to do
any weights. I used to walk everyday in the grocery store, it was so darn
hot outside.

Like the others have shared....as soon as you can get up and walk do so. It
decreases the gas/incisional pains, increases your energy level and
decreases your chance of getting blood clots.....
Once you are home walk....walk....walk. Map out areas in your neighborhood
for 1/4; 1/2 /3/4 and 1 mile....make it a goal to be at 1 mile a day in a
month. This will keep you healthy and increase the weight loss......the
healthy way rather than letting the surgery do all the work.....God bless
and good luck !!!! And welcome to the LOSER's BENCH !!!!
