I'm assuming you had the lap band? If so, one of the easist ways is to make sure to have a glass of milk as your snacks, but follow your doctor's instructions. I add a scoop of protein powder, which has 26 grams of protein, added to the grams of protein in the skim milk. Two glasses of that a day make protein a piece of cake! I also eat egg substitute, deli turkey, turkey meatloaf, chili and other high protein foods. Water is much easier with Crystal Light!! Good luck!

Right after surgery it was pretty much constantly for me. Just keep a measured amount of water at hand and sip on it throughout your waking hours. Stop drinking 30 minutes before your scheduled eating time (protein drink) and wait at least 30 minutes after to resume drinking. You will get tired and bored with the drinking so have some SF popsicles handy. They were so refreshing and counted toward my fluid intake goal. Each is 2 oz. Cold things may not be comforting to your pouch so if/when your plan allows, switch to a warm drink like decaf coffee, tea, etc. Most of all know that it's a goal. You won't reach 64 oz. per day right off the bat. More than likely it'll be around 40 oz those first couple of weeks. You have to keep pushing more each day. As you get healed inside and the swelling goes down you will be able to do both. The amount of time it takes for this to happen varies between patients. Some days you will feel like you have to force yourself to eat/drink but the most important thing post op is to keep yourself properly hydrated. It's a progressive thing. Clear liquids, to thick liquids, mushies, semi-soft and then to solids; one new food item at a time. You basically re-learn how to eat. Slowly and chewing until your jaws hurt...LOL. It will seem that way anyway. Good luck on your surgery!
