Diet soda is bad in general. Water is the best thing to drink. My doctor told me to drink water. If that's not available, flat diet caffeine free soda is ok. It's not something you should drink everyday. I drink alot of water and then if I need flavor, I have those crystal light packets that i add into my water. Not to sure about whether or not it'll help your pouch but it should help you lose weight. Good luck

Soda,is bad in general, when you drink it strait from a fountain drink, can or bottle, carbonation from soda,s if you shake the soda, it will explode,it will explode in your pouch,or stomach causing it to strech, this is how my Dr. explained it to me.And other wise the 1st poster is correct.

Hi, I am 7 months post op VSG and I have drank soda from time to time and I have found that it seems to stretch my stomach some because I have noticed that I seem to be able to eat more after I have drank pop repeatedly like once a day for a few days. I have noticed for me that when I stop drinking it and go back to drinking non carbonated flids (I drink decafinated iced tea because it is softer on my stomach) that the amount I eat seem to decrease again as if my stomach is going back down in size. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this and I don't have a pouch I have a smaller stomach but I though I would share what I have noticed. I have determined I will only drink soda occasionally and not regularly and try to drink it as little as possible. I hope you have great success.

Hi ! I have to agree with other posts. Soda whether it's diet or not has no nutritional value ..so if you can break yourself from consuming it, you will be all the better. I know its hard to refrain from things that taste good, or that we are used to, but success hangs in the balance. If you want to be successful..and I know you do, then try to re educate yourself on what is good for you, not good tasting.lol Sounds dreadful..but it isn't. There is plenty out there for us to eat and drink that is good and tasty too! best of luck to you! Hugs,Kim

Yes if your stop the soda it will help shrink your pouch and you should begin to loose weight again. Soda is a hard habit to break. I do propel or snapple diet teas. Mainly I try to do water or milk. But stop the soda and you will see the scale begin to go down again.

This is an extremely frightening and informative Q & A. My Dr. told me no soda, and I do not drink it. But I didn't know it would stretch a pouch, alarming!! I thank God daily for this Q&A site.

To Doreen: If your lower back is "killing you," you need to assess this further. Did you possibly pull a muscle? What type of pain? You may need to get checked? Sometimes if there is no known cause and the pain is in the lower back it could be a kidneystone or something. Talk with your doctor.

I am 3.5 yrs out from lapband and did not drink any type soda the first year. I do drink Diet Caffine free Mt. Dew on a daily basis and I do not have any tpye problems with it whatsoever. I reached my goal weight in the first 9 months and have maintained it without any problem. I do not feel it makes any difference if I drink soda or not as to how much food I can eat. I do not eat and drink at the same time either. This is just what the affects is on me. I know everyone has their own opinions. I do not consume alot of soda daily but I do drink it pretty much daily. Good luck.
