The problem with protein bars is the amount of FAT they have in them, along
with the amount of CARBS. Most protein bars are really "upside
down" on the numbers. The only one I've found that has more protein
than fat or carbs is the Power Crunch Bar. You can get them at GNC and
Vitamin Shoppe. And, I think I've seen them at WalMart, but I couldn't say
for sure.

I usually eat two bars daily, one mid morning and one mid afternoon. I'm 6
months out from my RNY and am down from 290 to 190. The bars from
Bariatricchoice.com I have found to be great. They have four different
types -- the BariWise Bars, BariWise Crispy 15 Bars, Wonderslim Crispy Bars
and Wonderslim Diet Bars. They range from 10-15g protien and 150-160
calories. They are delicious and bariatricchoice will stand behind their
products if you don't like it they will send you out something different.
My favorites in the bars are the Tangy Lemon Crisp, Strawberry Cheesecake,
Caramel Crunch, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Peanut Caramel Delight. There's
so much variety you don't get tired of these and I have found they don't
have the background taste that many high protein bars do. Their 800 number
is 800-993-1143. Their customer service has been great to deal with as
well. (No, I don't work for them!!!)

I too eat the pure protein bars. I buy them at sams club for quite bit less
than walmarts prices. I get a box of 18 (three flavors) for $17. They
average 200 cals and 20 grams of protein. One is 180 cals. Total fat is 4.5
to 5 Grams and total carbs is 17%..some of which is from fiber..so its a
good thing. My nut says they are good for us. I also like the MET rx
bars...but read the labels! Some are not so good for us. I like the
chocolate chocolate chunk and choc fudge. They are good about the same in
grams etc and the price is $1.17 at walmart..get only the small bars! I
also like and switch on and off with south beach protein bars. I like the
peanutbutter one best. But there are many to choose from. Read labels..I
cannot express this enough. The PB ones are 140 in calories, 10 grams
Protein, 15 g carbs, 5 g fat. I get 5 in a box for 4-6 dollars. Good luck
to you! hugs, kim

I enjoy the Atkins peanut butter choc. bar - It has 18g. of protein, only 1
g. of sugar - but 22g of carbs. I am only 3 months out - so not worrying
too much about the carbs - as I am not getting in very many calories. This
has around 210 calories - and I usually eat one for lunch. Good look to
you!

I eat the Adkins advantage bars they have 15-18 grams of protien in each
bar and have between 1-3 grams of NET carbs....so they are low in carbs,
not too much fat, and high in protein, a great choice.....

I eat Supreme Protein Carb Conscious Bars. I like Peanut Butter Crunch the
best. I usually have one a day to supplement my protein.

I am a Lap-Band patient, but as a Support Group Leader, I receive free
samples of food different companies that make bariatric supplements. Try
BariatricChoice.com. They sell a mix that you can make either a shake or
pudding from. I sometimes make pudding using milk instead of water and add
a raw egg to the mix. This provides even more protein. Be careful not to
do this too often, as the calories are increased as well. Following their
instructions (using water), you will get 15 grams of protein in a serving,
100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat, and 7 grams of carbohydrates. It provides
about 20% of the daily value of 20 different vitamins and minerals. They
have a hot cocoa mix that provides 12 grams of protein, 70 calories, 6
grams of carbs, and 1 gram of fat. I've tried their protein bars, and they
are good, I just don't have the nutritional information except for the
protein, which is 10 grams.
The company's whose protein bars I think are the best, is at
SmartForme.com. I don't have their nutritional information any more, but I
know you can get it on-line. They sale shakes and puddings too, but I've
never tasted those. I do like their crunchy snacks better than Bariatric
Choice's. They have 160 calories, 9 grams fat, 13 grams of carbs, and 15
grams of protein. They have 25% of your daily calcium and 15% of your
iron. Overall, the shakes or pudding are better nutritionally and have
fewer calories, but sometimes you just have the munchies. You might as
well get some protein if you need a chocolate, crunchy snack.
I hope this helps. God Bless

I eat the Adkins bars, too. Apparently shakes and such don't keep us sleeve
people feeling full long enough. The bars are really good for that--I have
a Peanut Buter/Chocolate one for b'fast and it keeps me going easily until
lunch time and beyond. I do not get hungry at all with those.
