Hi Lynn, Congrats on the approval! Have you seen a surgeon yet? I cant tell from your info where you are from. Here in Florida..there are surg. that except the Medicaid & Medicare. Most I have seen are at Hospitals of Excellants.

Hi Lynn i read your question, and yes alot of doctors are excepting both medicare and medicade. But you need to research where your living at, I'm in colorado and my doctor except but i have to give a $500.00 dowm payment. Also my advice to you is research to see if the lap band is best for you.

I beleive you can find a Center of Excellence here on OH. Just click on hospitals on the upper right under the search box. Once you have located one, then you have to research which SURGEONS accept Medicare/Medicaid. We have 6 COEs in my state. Only 2 do gastric bypass, but all but one of the surgeons in one do NOT accept Medicare patients even though they have a contract. The good news is Medicare is portable, as is Medicaid to a certain extent. If you can't find someone in your area, you can choose to have your surgery anywhere you choose.

Hi. I am actually having RNY surgery tomorrow, and I was covered 100% by Medicare and Medicaid. I did have to pay for the pre op diet food, $14.00 per box, and first appointment which was with a nutritionist, the doc, the head nurse, and the psychiatrist. That was only $200.00 if payed at the inforsession, and $400.00 if paid later, and that's a great deal! I also get 2 years post op care. I have Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, and he has folks come in from all over the USA because he is renown in the Bariatric field. He also does Lapband. Hope this helps. Maureen
