This happened to me, I just didn't feel like eating or drinking that much. 4 days out of surgery, I ended up in the Emergency Room getting an IV drip because I had become dehydrated. It's soooo important to sip water all day long. I was so weak, I could hardly stand up - and when I laid down, I could actually feel my heart thumping! Please take care of yourself, and if nothing else, get the water in, sip, sip, sip all day long, don't let the bottle of water get very far away from you. I feel great now - so hang in there!!!!!!!!

Yes Joyce it is hard but just be sure to drink (sip) your protien shake and water betwnn, Sip, Sip, Sip. My nutritionist told me that you probably won't reach your full protien allottment until you start eating small amounts of food. It was about 3 weeks before I made the full amount of protien. If you don't feel like eating just drink at least 1 protien shake, water, yogurt, cottage cheese, light stuff like that. Yogurt can have about 11 or 12 grams of protien, half of that is 6. You can make it. Take your vitimins.

There's a web site : www.unjury.com They have a protein powder (it's 20g) that you can add to anything like cottage cheese, pudding, soup, etc. It doen't have a flavor to it so it doesn't change the flavor of the food. They also have a chicken soup that has 20g of protein in it. There is also something in the grocery stores called K2O Protein Water Mix (comes in Packets) It has 5g. of protein and you mix with your water. I hope this helps.

Hi! I too got dehydrated out of the gate and it took me 3 weeks to rehydrate. You don't lose weight when you are dehydrated..bummer...I found the unflavored unjury was the only option for me. I mixed it into plain tap water at first ..then milk. It takes a bit of getting used to, but now I rather enjoy it. Now at 1 yr out I drink a protein shake ( 1 scoop unjury) mixed into Nestels flavored water. I cannot drink the water unless the unjury is in there!! lol Do try to sip the water.Keep a water bottle in your hand and just do it every 30 seconds or so. The artificial sweeteners made me sick try another one..I found that I could not tolerate nutrasweet but could do splenda well. Just keep at it and don't let yourself get in a bad way. When i was having this problem my nutritionist told me to not worry about food and make sure I was getting my fluids in. Perhaps you should talk to yours too! Good luck and God Bless. Hugs, kim

You should be drinking Iso-Pure Ready to Drink protein (it comes in Grape Frost, Icy Orange, Pineapple Orange Banana, and other flavors - and it tastes like grown up koolaid). It has 40 grams of protein in 20 ounce bottles. There is also the New Whey Protein Bullets (3 oz containers) in Grape, Berry, and Orange flavors. It's a little thick, like Jell-O before it starts to set up, so I would put half a container in my fruit-flavored herbal tea...like the orange flavor in my Mandarin Orange Spice Tea, and the Grape or Berry in my Wild Berry Zinger Tea. There are 45 grams of protein in each of the bullets. Also, these products count towards your water intake because they are clear liquids. They can be purchased at GNC stores or the Vitamin Shoppe. Hope this helps.

Immediately post op the most important thing is to get fluids in any way you can: ice pops, crystal light, chicken broth, decaf tea. I found the warm liquids went down better than cold. Then slowly increase your protein. I had severe dumping with milk after I got home. I was using it in Carnation Instant Breakfast because I wanted to get my protein in. I had to switch to Lactaid because I was lactose intolerant after surgery. So take it slow but get your fluids in. Good luck.

Hi, All of the posts hit the nail on the head. Although, if you set a minute timer to sip, sip, sip, every five minutes you will be okay. Popcicles, broth, water, anything you can see through. If cold items bother your pouch, warm the up or drink at room temp. Don't be concerned so much as getting in the "full" amount just 3 days post op, because that probably won't happen. Just focus on sipping and staying hydrated right now. Then gradually you can increase your amount. Be sure though, to measure the amount so you know how much to increase too. You pouch will naturally stretch out (well loosen up, as you will) as time goes by. You won't be hungry but if you focus on sipping all day long. It will feel like all you do is, is because that is all you will be doing. LOL The minute timer works great. I used a protein container w/the mill in the lid. So it has the oz's on it, so you can keep track of how much you drink. You can switch between protein and water, then change to tea, broth things like that. Best wishes to you, you will do fine. We are all here to support you.
