Question:
What are your expectations 1 year after RNY surgery.
This is another question that is on my intake form.like I said before, I have done all my research for over two years, and I am more ready than ever, But for some reason I am drawing a blank. I know it is supposed to be coming from my heart, but I really do no know where to start.Does anyone have any advice? — MARIA P. (posted on June 2, 2009)

Hi,
Well, you could start with your expectations are: you are going to develop
a healthier way of eating, not to look at food as a comfort food, but
needed to survive, I expect to not loose weight at the same rate as other
people. I expect to listen to my doctor and follow his instructions. I
expect to use my "Tool" (weight lose surgery) and not depend on
just a smaller stomach, I need to excercise and drink a lot of fluids and
take my vitamins and drink take in protein. Well, that probably isn't what
you or they are looking for but that is what came to my mind as far as
"expectations". I am probably way off. I had the RNY 3.5 yrs ago
and lost 90 lbs. and I am steady at 134-138lbs. Best Wishes and I hope
this helps. Since the expectations could mean a lot of things, these just
came from my heart and experience.

Expect a new life. Expect to do all the things you wish you could do
before your surgery. Life just seems "easier". You can shop and
feel good about buying something that looks good on you and not buying
something because it happens to fit you. I feel content, and I love my self
more. I don't see anything but all the positives a healthy person can
have. Good luck and I hope you take this experience and run with it
(literally) lol

Both of these are great answers! Thank you, both of you, for your positive
perspectives! They have given me hope that this will be a wonderful help
for me.

lost approx. 78 pounds. I also lost five medicines and three chronis
illnesses! How about that?

Healthier and Happier! It is a definite life change in so many ways. I have
just passed my one year mark. I cannot believe how different I feel and
how different people treat me. It is an eye opening experience that I am
glad I had the opportunity to go through. I had many co morbidities that
are gone... GONE! I have only had to use my inhaler 2 times since
surgery!!! I was using it at least 5 times a week prior. I can run, play,
and sleep! What a ride. You can expect to be proud and happy with yourself
and life in a different and more profound way than you are now.

if you have any co-morbities...you can expect better lab results maybe when
you go to your doctor.i had this question at my pysch visit and i told her
the samething.i know it will be great to hear how much more healthier i
will be and it may sound crazy but i expect to be on a set of roller
skates...lol..i always was a skater when i was growing up and into my late
teen years.i also expect to be able to do so much more in life than i allow
myself to do now.i expect myself to use my new tool in the most respectful
way it is intendend for me to use.hope some of these helps.i also expect to
feel complete content with the new life changing decision i have made.best
of wishes.
