Question:
I m 9 weeks post op and hit a plato - what should I do?
I had a RNY 9 week ago and lost 42lbs but I haven't lost any thing in the past week. I feel I following the rules. Any suggestions? — Dixie Pedersen (posted on March 15, 2009)

All I can say is Patience.. Just keep doing everrything right and by next
week the scales will move. I know it is hard not to focus on that, but we
will experience many plateaues on this journey.

Congrats on the weight loss. I wasn't out that far when I hit my first
plateau. What I found was that even though I wasn't losing weight, I was
losing inches. Most of the pants I wear are the pull on ones without the
snaps. Well, on Friday's at work we can wear jeans. I went to put on my
50" waist jeans and found out they were too big. I was actually able
to fit into some OLD 42" inch waist jeans, although they were tight.
I have since learned that the plateau, although frustrating, is like my
body's way of adjusting to itself. Good luck on your continued loss!

Thanks Dawn. That's a good point. In our excitement over losing, I guess we
forget that the poor body has to get used to the idea, and quickly!

Congrats on the weight loss and keep up the good work. I hit my first
plateau at 7 weeks so imagine my shock and horror. I didn't lose anything
for a month and then the next day the scale was my friend again and I
started losing like I had been before the plateau. I know it's hard but be
patient, I'm almost a year and a half out and patience is still hard for
me. smile.

my suggestion is to not give up. Our bodies need to catch up. you can add a
lil walk, or exercise to stimulate something...but really..I'd just be
patient and keep doing what you're doing. It happens , don't get
discouraged! Good luck and congrats! Hugs, Kim

Dixie, don't stress yourself out. You're doing great! I never weighed my
self until I went back for my 3 month check up and had lost 60+ pounds.
Maybe you should weigh yourself only once a week.

Hi, I'm 8 weeks out and have lost 41 lbs and I hit a plateau a week ago
& I'm still there. I just wanted you to know that I completely feel
& understand what you are going through. I also feel that I am doing
everything that I am suppose to. I keep track of everything I take it and
I exercise daily. Let's just hope that we both start losing again soon!
Hang in there...you are not alone

I had bypass surgery on 2/9/09 and also have hit a plateau. I was weighing
myself everyday at first and the weight was coming off, then all of a
sudden one day it stopped. I got so discouraged, but I was told not to
weigh myself everyday and to be patient. It will come off just will take
time. So, goodluck to you and we can do it!!

Looks like we are all in the same boat when we reach that plateau. I am 7
weeks out and the weight loss just stopped. What I'm realizing is that we
are all going through the same thing and we just have to be patient. I
stopped looking at the scale and hope that it will help me. Hang in there
with the rest of us....we'll be back to losing soon. :o)
