Question:

Help! I had my surgery in 12/16/08. I am always questioning myself if I have enough protein or water. Can someone send me a phase one plan that that followed?? Thank you so much. — ren50 (posted on December 27, 2008)

The hard thing about your questions is that not only does it depend on
which surgery, but each Dr is different. I had RNY and my dr said 60 -80
grams of protein and 64 oz of liquids.... Each person may same somthing
different

Yes I believe that is the standard, 64 oz of water, coffee, tea (decaf
only) and 60-80 grams of protein. Since you are a new post op you can get
most of your protein from shakes especially if you make them with milk.
You may have to try different whey proteins to see which you like best. I
still try to drink one a day!

I 'lived' on protein shakes for the first week after surgery (I had band)
but had to stop mixing them with pudding, like I did before surgery. I
just didn't have enough room in my pouch. The 64 oz of water is a minimum,
but since since you're only having liquids you can sip something every 5
minutes all day long. I had 4-5 shakes with nonfat milk every day, and
still find myself having 2-3 just to supplement my surgeon's suggestion of
80-120 grams of protein. I am 6'1" tall and started at 300#, now down
to 272 since Nov. 10th.
