Hair loss may or may not occur with patients--that's the bad news. The good news, is that it does grow back. In some cases your hair may be coarser than normal, curly instead of straight, straight instead of curly, etc. Some patients experience some of these changes, some do not. There is nothing to fully prevent the hair loss, nor guarantee the exact same "hair condition" as prior to surgery. Keep up your supplements to high values, eat protein, exercise, and drink fluids. You body has to "retrain" itself after surgery, and hair loss is a common factor from the trauma of any surgey. These surgery could be gallbladder removal, child birth, appendix removal, etc. DAVE

I found that taking 5,000 mcg of Biotin a day has helped a lot.

My issue was zinc. I started to take hair skin and nails and it stopped falling out started to grow back in and is healthy and soft. You may want to have your zinc level checked. I tried taking just a zinc supplement but it upset my stomach badly.

Take a B complex and watch your hair, nails and skin just blossom! I take a B-100 on sundays (weekly) and WOW!!!!! Love the results! They have a smaller dose too "B-50" or just a B-complex....all are basically the same...different doses... Ask your doc about it and which dose would be best for you...I tend to malabsorb...so I went with a high dose weekly...

It might be helpful to know what kind of protein you are using, and how much you are sure you are getting each day...? Kind regards Jerome UNJURY (R) Protein

Hi there, I am only 7 weeks post op but have not had any hair issues so far. Just had my 6 week post op check up a few days ago and my doctor was impressed that I haven't had any hair loss. He said to continue my supplement program and not change a thing...it is: An ounce of ALIVE! Liquid supplement (beware, it's really nasty tasting, but full of everything you NEED, found at most health food stores) each morning, 1 Sublingual B12, 2-3 chewable calcium and 2500mg of Vit D (it's actually 5000mg powder filled capsule that I divide in half and mix in soymilk, I put the other half back in the bottle for the next day). It is tasteless. I get this from Bariatric Advantage. I think the Vit. D is really the trick...but if you have a supportive and helpful doctor/staff, ask them for sure.

Hi I had the same problem when I had my weight loss surgery (March 7, 2007) and after losing 223 in 20 months my niece was able to help me. She is a hairdresser and has alot of chemo patients come to her who use the shampoo Nutri-Ox. She told me about it this about 8 months ago and man you ought to see my hair. It looks healthy and shiny and full of body and it has grown so well I've had to have it cut around every 4 to 6 weeks. She also recommended the Nutri-Ox conditioner to use and it works great too. I've only been able to find it in stores called Sally's where hairdresser's buy supplies. It cost about 6 something a bottle but if you get the discount card that is good for a year you save 20% which makes it around 5 or so but both bottles cost me around 10 something. It last along time and alot of my family who has thinning hair (husband and his sister) have started using it and noticed a big improvement. Hope this helps!
