Hi Stacie,
I, too, struggle with fibromyalgia. I had GBS on July 30th, and have lost
80 pounds. I am pleased to say that I have noticed that my fibromyalgia is
better!! Gone? Nope. But better.
I know that when it is flaring up, moving after having been still for a
while is very painful (for example, getting out of the car after driving
for 45 minutes). This is one thing that I have noticed has improved. I
guess it's because I am lifting 80 pounds less.
The area that has not improved is the sensitivity that I feel at those 18
pressure points. They still hurt like hell when touched.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your surgery.

I had WLS (RNY) on August 26, 08 and it has helped my fibromyalgia - I am
not "normal" but I definitely am better. Also Lyrica has helped
alot with my pain. I do have to rest alot though.

The more weight you lose, the better you'll feel. And, like the other
authors said, it will not completely go away, just finally have some relief
and the things you do everyday will get easier. Best of luck.

There is a group on here just for people with Fibro. I go there to get
information and meet with other people with Fibro who have had wls. You
may try going there as well.

I had my Extended RNY done July 2,2008 and find there is no difference in
my fibro. I had my original RNY in 1997 and my fibro got worse over the
years. Good luck.

I don't want you to think the the fibromyalgia will not go away. I, too,
have fibromyalgia and had the Realize Band surgery on 10/07/2008. At this
point in time, I have lost approximately 22 pounds and have noticed that my
arms and hips do not hurt as bad as they use to when I attempted to
workout. I am a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and had to stop because
of the fibromyalgia. My husband owns the TKD school and pushes my real
hard as far as workouts go, but I just got to the point that I would cry
out in pain. My goal is to start back into TKD by the first of the year.
I am already lifting weights again, walking on a treadmill (I am not a cold
winter weather walker), and do numerous stretches that do not hurt or if
the stretch does hurt, it is just not like the pain from before.
Please do not give up. My family physician explained to me that as the
weight comes off, it decreases the pressure on the joints and the muscles
do hurt as bad. He told me that he felt (he recently passed away) that if
I lost somewhere around 40-50 pounds, then I might not suffer at all
anymore. I am praying for that day.

I too suffer from Fibro. I used to be in pain every day. I have lost
about 40 lbs and have had a great relief. Good luck
