Question:
2 weeks post op and eating a lot more than other people I know... WHY??
I had RNY surgery 10-23-08. I have 3 phases and and am currently on the 2nd phase, I am allowed to have liquids, cottage cheese, pureed foods, and soft foods chewed a lot - no bigger than a pea. I spoke with a girl who had this done and she said that she couldnt eat even half of a pudding cup when she was 2wk out. Throughout the day today I had 3/4 of a scrambled egg, 1 pudding cup, 1/2 of a mashed potato, 1 cup of skim milk, and 1 serving of carnation instant breakfast. She said she couldnt get any of that down and Im having no issues at all. I havent felt "hungry" or "full" since surgery... Am I screwing up?? HELP!! — LauraMarie (posted on November 7, 2008)

Hi hon. You're not screwing up. I couldn't have the soft foods until
after two weeks, but my eating is about the same as yours. I had my
surgery on August 22, 2006. The only time I run into trouble is if I try
to eat that last bite when I am not really hungry any more. You are doing
great!

Sorry I meant to say I had my surgery in 2008, not 2006

You're doing fine. She might have had more swelling than you did. I know for
me, I was very swollen to the point of not being able to leave the hospital
for 4 days because nothing would go down during the barium swallow test.
You're not eating too much, I would maybe add a protein shake instead of
some of the other stuff. It looks like you might need more protein, but
other than that, it's not too much in my opinion.

Sounds like you are doing great, consider yourself lucky. Some people have
a very difficult time getting anything down for a time after surgery, some
people are able to. Everyone is different. Remember to focus on protein
and drink lots of fluids and you'll do great.

fluids are not considered food..even if they are protein shakes, so you are
fine. Tho I would stick to the food plan your doctor gave you. And if they
didn't, ask for one. You should be eating about 6 teaspoons of food right
now. and I mean 6 tsp as measured in a medicine cup..not big teaspoons from
your drawer. Ask for a medicine cup if they didn't give you one. ..I am 4
1/2 months out and still measure my food...i eat 2 ounces now..and its all
i can do to get that in. 2 ounces is two medicine cups. I hope this has
been helpful! Keep up the good work!! hugs, Kim
