Question:
LAP BAND a question for people that have hasd it for almost a year

I was just kinda wondering where other people are at on there weight loss. Dec 11th will be my one year anniversay and my starting weight was 309 and I am now 258. I am not complaining about my loss cause I know any loss is a good loss. but I have exercised everyday and eat the right foods and my loss is soooo slow. Now I have stuck at a plauteu for almost 3 weeks and my weight is not budging. How is everyone else doing? Is anyone else disappointed at how slow their weight loss is.    — willish (posted on October 16, 2008)

I was a year out on Oct 5 and I am down 114 pounds. I am very happy with my loss but I have hit plauteus along the way. Since I am now about 24 pounds from my goal the weight is not moving very quickly at all. I am very happy overall and continue to work as hard as I can to get to goal. I am having a tummy tuck on Dec 17 which should help me get closer to where I want to be. Good luck, hang in there and just keep doing what you are doing ..the weight will come off! ~Susan

I am 3 months out and have lost 67 lbs with my lap band. I am very happy with my results as well. I am curious how many calories are you guys eating in a day?

Shanda, I had lap band 4-16-08 and today I am down 60 pounds and lots of inches. I was told going in that the weight loss would be slow, because of medications that I was on and my age it would be slower. I was tool expect to lose the first year 70 pounds and now I have 10 more to go for that goal and I work hard to lose more just to probe him wrong. I do stick to the diet and exercise program but any weight loss to me is a good to me. Could it be time for a fill? I started weighing more than you but almost to what I am at now. Good Luck, just keep on going.

Hi, I really understand how you are feeling. I had bypass on 4/14/08 and have only lost 54 pounds, but I am trying to stay focus, but it has been hard expecially when we are doing all of the right things. ' Good luck, and hang in there. Jennie

I'll be a year out on 11/1 for my LB, I've lost 55#s. I was told it would be slow and if I lose more than 4# a month the clinic I go to freaks out. I'm happy with my progress, altho faster would have been better. I know I won't be facing any PS because my body is having a chance to adjust. Now I'm looking at back surgery.

I hear you. I'm down 100 # with another 60 to go. It is going slow for me too right now. The people around me are very encouraging to be grateful for the progress so far. I feel so much better. Think of the positive in the meantime. Keep doing what you're supposed to be doing. If you've been eating the same foods, try something new. I too feel disappointment but please don't get discouraged. You have done so well. Congratulations!

Don't worry about Plateaus, It's your body's way of catching up. I am 4 yrs Post op. I had plateaus all the time. I lost my weight slowly which is a good thing as your skin has time to catch up. I lost weight up to 2.5 yrs. I am a size 4 from a size 22. My skin issues are minimal. Make sure you eat every 3 hours. This surgery only works if you eat. Weird since eating is what got us into trouble to begin with but eating stimulates the weight loss. I never did the protein shakes. I eat whatever I want. I have zero fat in my body now. So don't worry the surgery works. Eat, Eat, Eat......Also take your vitamins and calcium.........Good Luck

Sometimes you can make small changes to encourage that plateau to go away. When we lose as much weight has you have, our bodies adjust to the lower calorie intake and starts to maintain. That in turn, might just make us discouraged enough to maybe eat incorrectly, maybe not. At any rate the way to get things going again is to decrease your caloric intake, increase your protien to 60 to 80 ounces (if not already doing that) and increase your daily activity if at all physically possible. Change the type of exercise you do. If you walk every day, switch to bicycling two or three times a week. If you go two miles a day, increase to three miles two or three times a week. Be sure you are drinking your 60 ounces of water every day. Take your body measurements, bust, waist, hip, thigh, and upper arm so that you can keep up with how many inches you are losing even if the scales are not moving very much. Some people on my other website also suggest going on an sort of Atkins Induction for two weeks to get things moving again, only protien and a very small amount of "good carb". Try these things and contact your doctor for a possible increase to your fill. Good Luck! :)

I was banded in May of "07, I was 199 the day of surgery and have lost 45 pounds...... It has been very slow -- I find it fasinating how much the average person eats at a meal - Then when I am only eating "bites", I feel like I should weight 2 pounds. I am thankful for the weight that I have lost and I had a good fill in September and am back loosing again after almost a SIX month plateau........ Good Luck.
