Hi, I am not sure if my own experience will be helpful, and I am still
pretty much a newbie at 6 months out, but I woud like to try.... I had an
experience several weeks ago where *suddenly* I was hungry every minute and
wanted to eat, eat, eat. This went on for a few days, and I was panicking,
thinking why is this happening? I felt as if my hunger level had increased
dramatically. I posted a question here and listed what I had been eating
for several days. Some very smart people who replied pointed out that I had
introduced some no-no foods in to my eating - frozen dinners with mashed
potatoes and stuffing, which provided and overload of empty carbs Carbs =
sugars) and excessive salt. Also, some crackers made from white flour. One
person told me he had identified in himself that these types of
carbs/sugars spiked his hunger and cravings..... So, anyway, I immediately
stopped eating carbs and went back to proteins (meat/fish/cheese) and
vegetables, and no exxageration - I immediately felt my hunger was back
under control. For me, it was a dramatic difference. I no longer felt like
stuffing my face every 15 minutes. ***I think some people are
"sensitive" to carbs/sugars, and some aren't.*** For me,
carb/sugar consumption starts a **vicious cycle of eating craving eating
craving.** I need to stay far away from carbs just as an alcoholic stays
away from alcohol. May be this is what is happening with you, I don't know,
but just thought I'd mention it in case it helps... best wishes! Gina

Try buying some fat free pudding or making some sugar free jello to try
curb your sweet tooth w/o putting in the fat and calories. I know how
frustrating it can be. I am 5 years post op. Strawberries with fat free
cool whip help me with my sweet tooth too. It is so hard to be good
sometimes. Just consider it a bad time and get back on track. You can do
it!!!!!!!!!!!

I am almost 4 months post-RNY. I am 25 pounds from my goal and have lost
82 pounds. I promised myself that if I became addicted to carbs AGAIN, I
would go to Overeaters Anonymous because they understand.

It is true that the more carbs you eat, the more you crave and it is soooo
easy to get back in to a little sweet here and a little ice cream there and
there you go.... WAY OFF TRACK and wondering what happened?
When I need to get back on track, I do a 3 day liquid (protein shakes,
sugar free, water) detox diet. It is hard at first and you will actually
go through carb withdrawal. But, you will completely lose the desire for
carbs. If you find you cannot do liquids only, go back to only protein and
veggies... no carbs.
Carbs keep you full for only 20 mins and make you crave more carbs.
Protein keeps you full for up to 4 hours and makes you crave more protein.
Exercise, stay busy, get the inappropriate foods out of the house, go to a
support meeting, call a friend... do whatever you have to do. We didn't go
through all we went through with these surgeries to go back
"THERE" and you know exactly what I mean by that.
Good luck,

I am not going to "bash" you for your food choices, instead, I am
going to suggest that you try seeing a counsellor. Most of the time, we
gain weight because of our own issues with food and what it is that makes
us eat. If we don't change or eliminate those things/feelings, we will end
up right where we were before we even started the WLS journey. I urge you
to seek professional help with this. Nothing anyone here can say will
change your body make-up or the way you "interact" with food.
All the best to you.

Hi...Well unfortunately, WLSuegeons don't operate on the brain too! That's
totally up to you sweetie. But once you start these bad habits, it's not
impossible to stop but it's quite hard if you don't know how to. I went
thru a phase similar to you and did the 5 Day Pouch test to get rid of the
carb and sugar cravings. I was hooked on peppermint patties and little
kiss size chocolate myself...and the funny thing is I was never one for
sweets or junk food. But I did like my breads and pasta, rice and taters!
I rarely eat these thing anymore...and when I do, I make a concious effort
to eat it last (so I am too full to fill up on that) and I only take a 1/4
cup and set a firm personal rule that I cannot go back for seconds. I can
go back for veggies or meat...But I know my limit and I have a set visual
of what my 8 ounce meals should look like...It I need extra, I ask myself
if it's my head or my pouch and Often, I KNOW I don't need more...I just
want it. So I stop...wait 30 or more minutes and drink a big glass of
water and I am happy more times than not...Switch to SF stuff and ween
yourself off sugar...then try making your snacks protien. Make SF pudding
with a scoop of protein powder. Or cottage cheese with NSA peaches and a
cherrry on top...(Makes it pretty and looks like a dessert) Try mixing sf
cool whip into some low carb vanilla yogurt for an awesome protein topping
for berries or other fruit. It like strawberry-NO-shortcake! LOL But it
works! Ice cream comes in No sugar added...Try that as a treat once a week
and no more...Make it something to look forward to and that way YOU
control it...it does not control you! You've done great...and if you don't
stop the destructive behavior, it will bite you...Try some new things and
get rid of all the candy. Give it away or throw it away...Start now...Go
on...Sign off the computer and go clean out the junk from your fridege and
pantry and make a list of good snacks! Make sure to include on your list
something crunchy, sf sweet, sf chocolate, creamy, spicy or salty if you
like...And when it's time for a snack you have a choice for whatever it is
you are craving. But at least they are planned and healthier choices! You
can do it!

Hi there! I want you to know that you are not alone! I am 2 1/2 yrs post
op and I am having major issue with eating chocolate, especially candy, and
ice cream(some make me sick). I need help and encouragement too. I had
lost 160lbs and have now gained some back because of my binging on sweets.
We need to support each other and maybe that will help us get back on track
and learn to eat sweets in moderation or find some other yummy things to
satisfy our cravings! I know we can do it but it's hard to get back on
track! Finally someone that understands where I am coming from! Have a
great day and hang in there!
