#2. I always get the hiccups if I eat too much. #4. My back ususally starts to hurt when I am not getting enough water. Yes. Things will get better with time. I felt like crap pretty much for the first 6 months. After that hardly ever. Hang in there!

First of all, my nutritionist would never tell me I was eating right if I was eating at Taco Bell. Maybe you should check that out. I had hiccups for quite a while after my surgery whenever I ate, and now they have gone away. The culprit might be not chewing enough, or eating too quickly. Constipation is uncomfortable and avoidable. I use Miralax, but ask your doctor what he/she prefers you to use. You will feel better with time. Everywhere you go from here is UP, so hang in there and congratulations on making a choice to improve your health!

Keep in mind I am no doctor - I think your back is killing you because of blockage building up. Are you allowed to take a stool softner? I would consult my doctor.

I checked out your profile. Good for u, u've lost 30 lbs. and probably more by now. I had my bypass on Jan. 14 so we're close to the same spot. I can't address the back pain as I havene't had any. The constipation though in the beginning is something normal. Caused by the new diet as well as surgery. I generally take a "tea" once a week to help me move my bowels....not recommened by the doctor but by me. It's hard to feel good if you only have a bm once a week. Regarding the blah feeling....yes, I have that too. Mostly caused by my protein drinks and regular food. I ate a cookie (just one small one and no problem!) though. To be honest, I think the "blah" feeling, although not pleasant, DOES keep me from eating things that aren't on my diet. If my stomach is feeling okay and not really full that's when I start thinking, oh just one chip is okay. So in a way it's a blessing in disguise....because you and I both are in this for the long haul...and that is to lose our weight. This does not mean it's easy....giving up the old way of eating and feeling is still hard...but think of all the good things that are coming your way. You can probably already tell a big difference in how your clothes are fitting. I have my good days and my bad days....but overall the bypass is the best thing that's happened to me in a long time. Good luck.

Take some thing like metamucil that is not bulk forming. Eat smaller amounts and take your time.

Hi Shelly, Congrats on your weight loss. I had my surgery 1-3-08. I too feel sick all day especially after I eat. #1. I wouldn't eat at Taco Bell yet. #3. For constipation or only having 1 bm a week my Dr. is having me take the chewable Benifiber or Milk of Magnisia. #4. If I get back pain I put a heating pad on it and it seems to help. 5. I'm told things will get better in time. Good luck. Kelly

#1: I feel that taco bell might be too greasy for you. I can hardly sometimes handle it 2 years out. #2: Hick ups can happen if you eat too fast. Also maybe you need your throat stretched. I know some have had that sharp pain and it's because they needed the scope put down there to stretch their opening to make them feel better. It happens nothing major or serious but help. #3 I would use those pills that help to make you regular like stool softners. #4 Your back is adjusting to losing weight it will hurt for the longest time you hunched over and your back is now releasing and starting to sit up easily but it is not use to that so it will hurt. Going to a chiropracter will help. i am three years out and I do not hurt at all I went to a chiropracter about twice max three times a year and it was great.

I AM 3 WEEKS OUT AND STILL FEEL BLAA A LOT. I JUST STARTED ADDING SOFT FOODS . MY STOMACH ACHES WHEN I EAT TOO FAST AND MY DIETITIAN SAY 20 MINS PER MEAL WHEN EATING. BEANS ARE ALSO GAS PROMOTING. TRY COTTAGE CHEESE, YOGURT, SCRAMBLED EGGS TO START OUT. A SMALL DECAF COFFEE HELPS MY BOWELS MOVE IN AM, OR SMOOTH MOVES TEA. THE BACK AND STOMACH ARE CLOSELY CONNECTED AND WHAT AFFECTS ONE BOTHERS THE OTHER. AS YOUR SURGERY HEALS AND YOU ARE MOVING MORE YOUR BACK WILL FEEL BETTER. I ALSO AGREE THAT A CHIROPRACTOR HELPS A LOT AS YOUR BACK ADJUSTS TO WEIGHT CHANGES. GOOD LUCK. MARSHA J

I had a lap band on 12/19/07. I had back pain after I lost about 30 pounds, and I figured it was due to the fact that the fat around my middle was going away and causing my muscles to have to start supporting me again. I've now lost 60 pounds, and the back pain has subsided tremendously. I do get hiccups, and when I look at what I have eaten just before they start, I realize I have eaten way too fast, and not chewed enough. I also will get a pain from my throat all the way down to the stomach. Believe me, they're not worth eating too fast. I agree with the others that it's too early to eat Taco Bell, but, I did it too. I can't say don't do it, but realize that there is a lot of grease in their food, whether just beans or not. Good luck. Drink LOTS of water. If water is unappetizing, try any of the Crystal lites or teas. Hang in there. Cheryl

This is pretty soon to be even t ring taco bell if at all. You need to stick to things that are softer right now like cheese, cottage cheese etc. I had my wls 10 months ago and still get the sick feeling sometimes, maybe your eating to fast? Either way just try and stick with the things you know you can tolerate for now.

answer to #2: my nurse explained this one to us in support group--it's caused by eating too much. the stomach/pouch, when it gets too full, gets heavier and kinda sags a bit more than usual, touching a nerve (the name of which I can't spell) and that causes you to hiccup. I think, if I remember correctly from her explanation, this could happen to "normal" / non-post op people too. #3: ive had that problem off and on too, especially since my surgeon is a real stickler for high protein diet w/ NO CARBS AT ALL (as best as you can follow that)....so the advice that she says is best, is to drink as much water as possible to keep your system going. Dehydration is one of the major causes of constipation...

Just have to make a comment : Beans are on the approved protien list as well as the approved "soft food" list. So why people get so upset that they are from "TACO BELL " I just don't understand. They don't grow their own, they are the same beans as if you bought them and ate them at home. Have a fabulous day.

I would not say that beans from Taco Bell are considered healthy, any fast food or processed food is bad news. Not to say you will never eat them again, but I would stick with organic or basic whole foods for optimal health. I am willing to go over some basics with you, nutrition is key to feeling good, I am a Nutritional Health Coach, and RN please email me at [email protected]
