Question:
What should I expect during my pre-op visit? Be specific.

Are you talking about your pre-op with the surgeon or your pre-op meeting w/ the hospital. They will weigh you both times. The surgeon will want to make sure you're still on board with the surgery and that you understand everything that is happening. I had to sign a paper stating that I fully understood many of the details....I had to initial each paragraph. Stuff like I know I need to exercise, know that I need to change my eating habits, etc. I even had to watch a video. By the time I saw my surgeon I just wanted to get out of there. This is the time to ask any questions you have of your surgeon. The surgeon may also, at this time, put you on a pre-surgery diet. For me it was two-fold, a one week reduced calorie and then a 4 day clear liquid...then nothing midnight before the surgery. The pre-op hospital meeting covered things like what to bring to the hospital...cpap if you have one....no jewelry. They also concentrated heavily on the diet before and after. Talked about vitamins and when to schedule your post-op follow up meetings. They talked about support groups. Most of the info was redundant but still good to hear. They also talked about how many nights you would likely be in the hospital...how soon you'd get out of bed....same day as surgery for me even though my surgery was one of the last. Your surgeon should tell you what time to check into the hospital....the hospital will tell you aboaut their admissions policies and where to go on surgery day. This is the time to hammer out all the little details. Every hospital/surgeon is different, however, on what they do but this is what happened to me. Best of luck to you.

I had my pre-op yesterday. They weighed me, checked my temp, bp, ears, throat, heart, lungs, etc. I also had an ekg, chest xray, gall bladder ultrasound and lots of labs. My rny is on the 14th.
