Hm, honestly, when I wsa two days out, I wouldn't have been able to drink
that much milk! I couldn't take down anything, actually, except water and
a teeny weeny bit of juice. I did little eating and drinking. It will be
interesting what others say! I also was not hungry for the first three
months. I hope that helps?

I was hungry, too. However, I decided it was head hunger. Bow I am 2
monthsnout and I am really hungry sometimes. Just don't give in.

If you are drinking 8 oz on your fourth day post op....You are stretching
the pouch. No more than 2-3 oz should fit...Your stomach may not be fully
awake and able to feel the (full) sensation. I would not push it. It
takes several weeks to fully heal! They went over this in nutritian class.

It takes me a very, very long time to do 8 oz of anything. My lap rny was
on Tuesday.

You need to realize this is head hunger. You are doing great harm at only
2 days out and drinking that much right away! You are going to jepoardize
everything you have gone through and make this great tool useless. Go out
and go walking, do anything (except eat) to distract you from your
"hunger." It is not easy, but if you want to succeed you MUST!
As another poster stated, you are still healing. You can do great harm to
yourself and end up in the hospital! Hang in there and fight this head
hunger, it won't be easy at all, but it's something we must do! Good luck,
God bless and welcome to the losing side!

Oh how I know this journey is not easy. I am 10 days out from RNY and have
lost 32 lbs and I haven't felt hungry at all, I hope it continues because
I've been having some serious withdraw issues. I hope you don't push it
though, I can't believe you are drinking that much at one sitting. I
wasn't able to drink that much while in the hospital for 2 days and now I
can't do it for my stomach starts to gurgle and feel funny plus I'm afraid
of that feeling of "death" everyone talks about if you over do
it. I send my prayers to you and suggest you speak to your nut about this
and good luck.

When I thought I was hungry, I would chew on sugar free Ice pops. For me,
I know it was head hunger. You need to consider that. Good Luck!

Hi, I'm three days post op and I definately think it is head hunger! I have
felt like I was hungary (thinking of eating) but not really wanting or
needing to eat! I drink ISOPURE-apple melon flavor, not bad at all! I have
also froze some in ice containers half way so I can suck on them as my
mouth feels it needs something. make some sugar free jello and add some
protein too! I really haven't had much myself, sip sip sip constantly
protein and water, let me know if I can be of any further information, good
luck to you!

Humor me here...I agree with others when I say I would bet your issue is
head hunger. At 2 yrs out I struggle with this alot, most of the time I am
successful. In my opinion head hunger is worse than actual hunger. It is us
fighting the instinct that got us in trouble in the first place. Try water
loading which is drinking water or something else sugar free when you get
the urge. By drinking I mean drinking quickly until you feel full, but not
over full. About the carnation thing...at only days post op you should be
drinking only 1 oz every 10-15 minutes. You need to heal and overloading
could hurt yourself. Remember that if you had RNY your stomach is actually
smaller than what can fit in your mouth. What's the old
saying....."Just because you can do something doesn't mean you
should."

I had my RNY on 10/22. My first week with clear liquids with protein
supplement, second week was protein shakes, and I am finishing my 3rd week
today which has been ground foods. Alot of people have the head hunger and
I am glad I haven't been one that does. Try the sugar free popsicles and
the sugar free jello. If all else fails call your doctor to see what he
recommends. Good luck with your journey.

I think back 7 1/2 years ago when I had my surgery. I was drinking shot
glasses of liquids...seems to me the hospital had some lemon tea concoction
that was really quite good... better than water. Anyway...I got home from
the hospital...and had this horrendous almost overpowering yen for ...get
this....A polish sausage on a toasted kaiser roll with a ton of mustard.
Not something I would even normally eat. I laughed myself silly, because
being barely able to get the liquid in, I KNEW it was head hunger. One day
came...probably a year later that I actually got a polish sausage with all
the fixings. I think I had one bite...and realized I didn't even want it.
Amazing what your head will do. If you are drinking carnation
breakfast...chances are it is just running through your pouch. You won't
get a feeling of fullness. Think about the sugar...I know...it's no sugar
added...which means....SUGAR...plus if you are mixing it with milk....more
SUGAR. A good whey protein supplement mixed with ice and water will do
you a lot better in my not so humble opinion. Regards~

I HAVE NOT YET HAD SURGERY;BUT I KEEP SAYING OVER AND OVER "THAT
NOTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS"
SO WHEN YOU ARE FEELING THIS OVER BEARING HUNGER,TRY SAYING THE
ABOVE...IT'S ALL IN THE HEAD....
HANG IN THERE........

Hi Christine, I use C.R.'s motto also - sometimes have to say it several
times a day. I haven't had my surgery yet but wanted to say hi. I live in
Agawam - do you by any chance go to Baystate Surgical Groups' support
meetings? BTW - like your fish face!

I had my RN-Y surgery on Nov 6th and arrived home today. Spent several
extra days at Methodist due to an extra "bump or two" in this new
journey. While in the hospital, stuck to apple juice and Jell-o for
breakfast, apple juice, Jell-o and broth for lunch and dinner. Kept up
with my fluid intake by consuming steady sips of water and an occasional
coffee tempered with warm water. Never once felt hunger pangs or a yen for
anything else. I'm afraid had I tried milk, it would have been
"dumping" time for me, although I am looking forward to the next
phase of my diet plan.
