Question:
Drinking plenty of fluids?
I feel like I have a lump in my throat when I try to drink anything. I know I should be drinking more water etc. but it is rather uncomfortable so not sure what to do. I sit up straight and do what is told..but drinking is difficult for me. Any suggestions? btw - thicker fluids make for a bigger feeling lump. — mnsuzybell (posted on September 20, 2007)

Hi , I have a simular problem. I don't get the lump in my throat, but when
it hits my stomach ( pouch) it is uncomfortable. They told me it is not
uncommon to have a hard time with liquids. Go ahead and add crystal light
or cool aid or anything sugar free to get it down. I also find hot drinks
easier then cold. so I drink lots of tea. Good luck.

Have you asked the surgeon why you have the lump in your throat is
something stuck or do you need a dilitation. I would first find out why I
had the lump in my throat and go from there.

I too had a problem with this and I spoke with my surgeon and he said that
the opening to my pouch was narrower than normal and I would have to take
smaller sips to avoid the uncomfortable feeling. Try taking smaller sips
and concentrate when drinking.

I had ths ame problem, and still do - two years out! NOt as bad, though.
I still have trouble drinking enough fluids! Try not eating/drinking
within an hour of each other.
