An Endoscopy take 5 minutes and is painless, they take a small tube and run it down your throat to visulize what is in the stomach, you are sedated and do not remember the procedure, the most discomfort for me was when they sprayed some stuff inthe back of my mouth to numb my throat, but not all surgeons do this. I was very nervous too and it was a piece of cake

It is quick and not bad. I was given a teaspoon of med to gargle and spit. That was the worst part of the procedure. It was to numb my throat. I didnt feel a thing. Good luck Jan

I was nervous and scared about having a scope put down my throat. I thought I was going to have to swallow it to help it get down but I was wrong. I think I had something sprayed down my throat but that was no problem. When I woke, I asked when they were going to do it and was told it was already done! I didn't feel a thing! So I don't think you need to worry about anything. -@li

Hi- You will not remember the procedure at all. I have had it done twice in the psat few years. The Doc may spray the back of your throat with a numbing medication that tastes like Banana flavor. They will give you some sedation through your IV. Before you know it you are waking up and it is done. I did not even experience any sore throat at all. Just somewhat tired later that afternoon and slept when I got home. Good luck...Maria

I haven't had one since surgery as my throat/esphogus issues are gone. But before surgery, they give you a cocktail that makes you sleepy - you sleep and wake up in recovery. After surgey, I am not sure how they do it. But I've had over 10 EDG's prior to and each one has been painless and eventless.

Hi Alice! As with the previous posts, an enoscopy is no big deal. I had to have 3 of them after surgery...one only 5 weeks post op! Although I was nervous, there was no way I was going to have them knock me out again, so I insisted on no meds. They just sprayed my throat to numb it and away they went. My paretns were waiting on me..they say no driving afterwards..and were shocked when I walked out after 20 mins. or so. Everyone else needs to wait like 3 hours. I even got to drive home with no side effects what-so-ever. Not even a sore throat. So, rest assurd that this procedure is truely no big deal, unlike the ulcers they found. :( Best of luck. Denyse

USUALLY THE PATIENT IS OUT OR SEDATED AND DOESN'T REMEMBER A THING. A LIGHTED SCOPE IS INSERTED IN THE ESOPHAGUS AND THE PHYSICIAN IS ABLE TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON IN YOUR STOMACH AND ESHOPHAGUS. HE IS ALSO ABLE TO TAKE PICTURES OR PERHAPS HE WILL VIDEO TAPE THE PROCEDURE AND YOU CAN SEE WHAY YOU LOOK LIKE INSIDE-OUT! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS, EXCEPT A SMALL SORE THROAT AFTERWARDS. dON'T BE SCARED - ITS A COMMON PROCEDURE.

Piece of cake, oops maybe I shouldn't have said the "c" word.... Anyway, It was so fast and I didn't feel a thing. By the way, they didn't spray my throat or anything :)

When I was told I was to have a endoscopy I freaked out. All these wild thoughts came to my mind and I was scared. The staff at the hospital was great and really knew my concerns. I was in the room for just a few minutes when the doctor came in and I was sedated. The last thing I remembered hearing was the doctor telling me to swallow. I did not feel anything and the next thing I knew I was in the recovery room. I doubt if it took a half hour total to do. You will be fine. I know I was very nervous but after having it done, I now think I was upset over nothing.
