Question:
I finally got approved and I am having my surgery on Monday May 7th!!!
Any extra suggestions on necessities for the hospital and post-op that you sometimes don't think about?? I am really excited and anxious! — kimberly-07 (posted on May 1, 2007)

Congratulations! You will soon be on the losing side! The hospital had
everything I needed. I only needed to bring myself and of course I brought
my purse and cell phone. Good luck and God bless!

The two things I recommend are chap stick and a sleep mask. The kind that
blocks out light. It was wonderful. Congrats and stay strong. Follow your
doctors orders.
Happy Weight Loss!!

Congratulations,
The clinic where I had my lapband done gave me a heated blanket to curl up
in, it was heaven. I also had my lipbalm and water. Your throat might
feel sore from the intibation tube. The regular pain medication will
relieve any soreness, hopefully. All I got was liquid codine, 5 mls or 1
tsp.

The hospital had everything I need -- but as others said -- lip balm.
May 7th is like next week. Well you'd want to go out and purchase your
multivitamins, and all the liquids they recommend the first week. This
way, no one has to go out and purchase them for you -- they're already in
the house.
CONGRATULATIONS -- and everything you are feeling is normal.

All of the above is great advice. I'll add one more thing........take your
pillow. Sleep is hard enough with all the activity of the hospital. Also,
the pillow will help hold your belly on the way home. I was doing very
well in the hospital......getting up and walking with no problems, but that
ride home...........OUCHIE!!! Have a very uneventful surgery and we'll be
waiting for you on the losing side.

I would bring a pillow and chap stick. I wish I had brought my heating
pad. I started to have pain in my back the second day. The only thing the
hospital had was heating pouces. They work but they are not big and they
will lose the heat. Good luck!

The other writers are right on point. If you want you can pack your own
little personal bag, but I didn't use one thing in it.I didn't even use
chaptick because the hospital supplied vaseline.I had purchased new gowns,
but figured I would wait till I was home to wear them. The hospital gowns
they supply will do you just fine, especially with the tubing . Good luck
and enjoy the ride. Hope you have a happy journey.

Hi Kimberlie, and congrats on your date. I think the most important things
I took to the hospital were baby wipes for my tush and a wooden or plastic
spoon to put the wipe on. I did not want nurses wiping my tush, I wanted
to clean myself, and it worked well. Also, I brought a blanket and pillow
from home so I could have color in my room, along with cds and a cd player
so I could listen to soothing stuff that I liked. Toothbrush and paste,
shower stuff and lip balm. Your lips are so dry and yucky for the first
several days, you will appreciate your toothpaste and lip balm more than
ever. Hope this helps. Take care. Patricia P.
