Question:
Can anyone tell me if they had the LapBand surgery and if they are doing well?

Where can I go to find out if my insurance will pay for LapBand? I have 100 lbs to lose does anyone know how long it takes to loose it?    — Paulette1958 (posted on February 22, 2007)

Paulette, you have to contact your insurance company. If they say no, you cannot make them do anything, they hold the policy. You can appeal, but it is up to them. You can find a lawyer to try and help you, but like I said, the insurance company holds the policy, they know what they will and won't do. If you are covered for wls, many times lap band is not covered because it is still new. Check with them. No one knows how long it will take to lose 100 pounds on another person. If you had the lap band, it would depend solely on your determination to lose the weight. If you do all things you are supposed to, every time, then it could very well take a year or better to lose the weight. I had a gastric bypass and lost 120 pounds. I am 3 years out now, but it still took over a year to lose the weight. I walked 5 miles a day and drank water and ate carefully. Even with the RNY it took a long time, and I lost just a few pounds per week. It is not a miracle, it is a tool. You need to wrap your head around that fact first. If you use your tool, you can get good results. You have to push through the bad times, and not "celebrate" the good times to get the success you want. It is hard work. I think it is much harder with the lap band, but either way it is tough. Keep researching and keep your head on straight. Obesity is a head issue with a body consequence. Putting the body in check and not dealing with the head issues will only cause you grief in the end and weight gain as well. Deal with the head issues and you have a real shot at a good body consequence. Take care. Patricia P

Aloha! I had a lapband almost 6 months ago and have lost 66 pounds to date. I have had really no problems. My only problem is when I try to eat something I shouldn't or eat too fast or eat too much, it comes back up. I have learned not to do those things! I am totally happy with my lapband. I have no regrets. Good luck and God bless!

I had the lap-band surgery on Feb. 12 of this year. I am doing much better than I expected. I was scheduled to have gastric-bypass last Nov, but because of doubts about getting down my long term meds we decided to do the lap-band. I had to cancel because my insurance would pay for the bypass but not the band. I was so disappointed. So on Jan. 2, I called my insurance again and they had decided to cover lap bands at the first of 2007, so I reapplied that day. I have been on a roll ever since. The lap-band is so much less invasive and eaisier to recover from.It also makes it easier to get down your food at first. Call your insurance info number ask what it takes to cover this surgery. It never hurts to get your doctor to help appeal to the insurance company.

You must not use others to measure how your weight-loss journey will go. If you have only 100 lb to lose, you could be considered a "lightweight" and you may lose slower. I hit my 100 pound mark 18 months and three fills after my Band surgery. Best of luck!
