Question:
Does Military do post-op plastic surgery?
I have a friend who is awaiting RNY. She is engaged to a service man. Would the service hospital take care of her post-op plastic surgery after they are married? Does anyone know? She asked me to put this question out. Thanks. Barbara — StarWish624 (posted on December 9, 2006)

The military certainly provides plastic surgery, but it is not free. It's
less expensive than the outside, but there is usually quite a long wait.
They have AWESOME surgeons! So the answer is yes, but it's not free. As
far as I know this is true across the board.

I'd suggest to her that if she is already employed and has health insurance
that she keep her private insurance. The military may not cover it at all
whereas her private insurance may. Since she is AWAITING RNY, she could
drop her private insurance for the next year or so while she gets to her
target weight and then look at plastic surgery. If the military doesn't
cover her plastic surgery or its too expensive, when open season comes at
her job she can re-up with her private insurance an go from there. Tell
her don't put all her insurance eggs in one basket.

My husband was active duty when I had my bypass, and retired when I needed
the panni. No cost to us either time. I realize I was lucky; when I had
my panni they had just activated National Guard for Iraq and my surgeon was
board certified plastic surgeon from Beverly Hills. That was a once in a
million chance. Each Medical facility is different, depending on the
commander-in-charge.

the military pays for one elective surgery. if she didn't have the military
pay for the surgery in the first place.. then they will pay for the plastic
surgery. Our military support group where I am having my surgery done on
the 23rd of January, gave a lecture on the regulations about it last month.
