Question:
someone explain to me the lapband fills
how many times do you have to get it filled? and after you're done losing does it get taken out or stay in there? and how would you know if you were allergic to the material? — lightburn (posted on September 17, 2006)

You get filled until you have reached a level that you are comfortable
with. There is no set answer for that.

1. The amount of fills one needs is individual. There's no set number ..
you get filled until you hit your "sweet spot", and even then it
may need to be tweaked. The average number of fills to get to that first
sweet spot seems to be three. 2. The fill stays. Otherwise you'd go back
to being hungry all the time and risk gaining your weight back. 3. The
fill material is just normal saline; you shouldn't be allergic to that. If
you mean the band itself, it's made of the same material as other implants.
The risk of allergy is very low. Good question for your doctor, though.
